Iconic actor Mark Hamill thanked Star Wars fans in a newly released box set letter. Best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker, Hamill has been with Star Wars from the beginning, playing the optimistic Jedi to be in A New Hope when it was released in 1977 to ending his story in The Rise of Skywalker as a Force Ghost.

Although the epic Skywalker Saga technically came to a close with Rey finally defeating Palpatine once and for all doesn't necessarily mean that fans will close their hearts to the story of the Skywalkers and their friends and family. Luke, Han and Leia may have started off bickering their heads off while attempting to escape the evil Lord Vader's clutches, but their struggles, their triumphs, and their immense character growth all the way to the new trilogy had fans by the heartstrings from the start.

In the upcoming Skywalker saga box set featuring all nine episodes, Hamill wrote a touching letter to Star Wars fans. He mentions how he, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford had no idea that when they first started filming the first movie just how immense the Star Wars galaxy of fans would grow over the years. As fans wait until they can bring the box set home, they can still read Hamill's letter thanks to Twitter user @KirstenAcuna. Check out the touching tribute letter below.

Star Wars at its core has always been about choice. Choosing whether to stay on the light side or turn to the dark side, choosing one's own family and fighting for loved ones that claimed they could no longer be saved. What makes Star Wars so appealing decades later is the universal humanity of its core characters even though they're in a galaxy far, far away. From the independent and incredibly strong Princess/General Leia having to bear watching her home planet Alderaan utterly destroyed and her son's turn to the dark side, to Han being frozen in carbonite after putting too much trust in Lando Calrissian to Luke refusing to kill his father in Return of the Jedi, the heroes struggles made their eventual triumphs that much sweeter. Watching Luke, Han and Leia's journeys as they grow and ultimately live to help the new crop of heroes in the new trilogy was fulfilling and helped give the Skywalker saga a full circle feeling.

While the future of Star Wars films are still somewhat up in the air now that the Skywalker saga has come to a close, there is hope on the horizon with a second season of the hit live-action series The Mandalorian set to premiere this fall as well as the highly anticipated seventh and final season of the animated series The Clone WarsThe story of Luke, Leia and Han may be over but their legacies will live on forever as the future of the Star Wars franchise continues to move forward at light speed.
