Ever since the original film debuted in 1977, Star Wars has been a merchandise giant with a plethora of tie-in merchandise that ranges from toys to kitchen appliances. With Disney ushering in a new era for the galaxy far, far away, the release of these products has become something of a national holiday. The last two years have seen Force Friday events where stores unveil all the new items - first for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and now for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Even though the movie is still a couple of weeks away, fans have already spent a large amount of money on everything that's available.
Of course, "Rogue Friday" this fall was only the beginning of the latest Star Wars onslaught on retailers. Now that Rogue One is right around the corner, interest for all things Star Wars is higher than ever, and some stores are introducing new products just in time for last minute holiday shopping. Wal-Mart has some fun exclusives that are bound to sell well and just recently shared them.
In all, the collection has five products: an Air Hog remote-controlled Star Destroyer drone, a Death Trooper Funko Pop bobblehead, a 6-inch Black Series figure of the Scarif Stormtrooper, 3.75-inch Black Series figures of the Scarif Stormtrooper and Cassian Andor, and a 3.75-inch action figure value pack that includes Cassian Andor, K-2SO, and Jyn Erso. As of this writing, the Star Destroyer drone, Death Trooper Funko, and Black Series 3.75-inch figures are already available for purchase. The Scarif Stormtrooper 6-inch figure and value pack with Cassian, K-2SO, and Jyn will both hit store shelves on Sunday, December 4. Wal-Mart notes that many of their Star Wars items (including the exclusive products) can be ordered through same-day pickup, where consumers can pay for them online and pick it up in the store the same day. That is the ultimate convenience for customers as they try to find time for shopping in their busy schedules.
The vehicles are some of the most iconic elements in Star Wars, so the most sought-after will most likely be the Star Destroyer drone, which has light-up LED thrusters and gyro stabilization for smooth flights. The remote control has a range of 250 feet, so it can soar around at a great distance. There should also be a good number of the action figures sold, especially if the new characters catch on with fans like they did in Force Awakens. K-2SO has been one of the standouts in the marketing campaign so far, emerging as a blunt source of comic relief. Chances are, he's another addition to the enduring Star Wars droid legacy. And with Jyn primed to become another memorable sci-fi heroine, the value pack will have plenty of value indeed.
