Rogue One: A Star Wars Story U.S. Tickets Go On Sale Monday

Lucasfilm announces that tickets for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's U.S. screenings will be available to buy as of Monday, November 28th.

The latest installment in the Star Wars franchise, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is due to hit U.S. screens on December 16th, and fans can't wait to see it. The film is set directly before the events of A New Hope, and tells the story of the rebels who stole the plan of the Death Star. It will be the first in a new series of stand-alone Star Wars movies known as the Star Wars Anthology series, which will also include the upcoming Han Solo movie. The film, directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, will have its world premiere on December 10th.

Tickets are already on sale for the film in the UK, but are not yet available in North America.  Now Lucasfilm has given us a Thanksgiving treat - a tweet revealing when fans can purchase their tickets on this side of the pond.

The tweet, posted by the official Star Wars Twitter account at 9pm on Thanksgiving, includes a reference to Darth Vadar and a gif of the Sith. It reads: Lord Vader, we've been expecting you. Tickets for #RogueOne: A Star Wars Story are available on Monday, November 28. No time is given for the start of ticket sales, but we can safely assume that more information will follow (and that it may vary from theater to theater).

Advance tickets are likely to sell out, especially for Rogue One's opening weekend. The film is projected to make $130 million during its opening weekend alone, and if the performance of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is anything to go by, tickets will sell out quickly. Last year, The Force Awakens sold over $100 million in advance tickets, and many theaters set up extra screens for the film - which also sold out incredibly quickly. Although Rogue One is not predicted to have quite the same draw as The Force Awakens, the Star Wars name is still sure to draw the crowds.

The gif in the announcement tweet is an image that we have already seen, but it's still exciting - and seeing Darth Vader again is enough to give fans chills. He is undoubtedly the biggest pre-established character that will appear in Rogue One, and we can't wait to see him back on the big screen in all his glory. Disney/Lucasfilm have been releasing new promos for the film all month, but the ability to buy tickets on Monday brings us one step closer to seeing it - and the fan response to the news has been fun, in its own right (see below, for instance).

That said, there isn't quite as much excitement for Rogue One as there was for The Force Awakens last year. Although the film was very well-received, some fans were disappointed, feeling that the story was a re-tread of the originals. This negative reaction may see fewer people buying tickets for opening weekend this year. Another reason that some fans may not be rushing out to purchase seats on Monday is that Rogue One is a stand-alone, and not part of the larger story, and that we have not had the same length of time between films. (The Force Awakens was the first Star Wars film in ten years.)

Despite this, we are sure that Rogue One tickets will be snapped up quickly when they go on sale on Monday, and are sure to sell out.
