Rogue Friday (September 30, 2016) was a big day for Star Wars fans, since it marked the first time they could purchase official merchandise from this December's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Just about every Lucasfilm licensing partner from Topps to Hasbro has gotten in on the fun, releasing images of the products they're offering consumers as the countdown to the spinoff film marches on. People are already adding to their collections, scooping up the items they most desire for display or play purposes.
In regards to the former of those two, Sideshow Collectibles has fans covered. For years, they have produced strikingly realistic figures based on characters from all kinds of pop culture brands. Star Wars, of course, represents a gold mine for them, and with Rogue One quickly approaching theaters, Sideshow is looking to capitalize on the anticipation with a new line of their famous 1/6 scale figures. Hot Toys has already unveiled their new Darth Vader, and now the rest of the bunch have been revealed.
Details were released today about five upcoming 1/6 figures: the aforementioned Vader, an Imperial TIE Fighter pilot, an Imperial shoretrooper, an Imperial stormtrooper in Jedha patrol mode, and Luke Skywalker from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. You can check out images of them all in the gallery below:

As one would expect, each one has special features that make it a must-have. The TIE pilot comes with an updated helmet and paint job to match what's seen in Rogue One and an armor sculpt with life-support pack hoses. The Jedha patrol stormtrooper is only available in select markets as an exclusive to Sideshow and has a figure stand with a backdrop modeled after a scene from the movie. Hot Toys' shoretrooper is designed with weathering effects on the helmet and armor for a more accurate depiction, and the Luke Skywalker figure includes interchangeable hands for different poses and a Resistance themed figure base. We've extensively covered the Vader in another post. With the exception of the stormtrooper (which is expected to be released between October and December 2016), all the figures will be available in the first quarter of 2017.
It shouldn't surprise anyone that the new figures are beautifully crafted and definitely live up to Sideshow's high standards that they've set for themselves. Of this grouping, the one that will arguably be in the highest demand is the Luke Skywalker, in part because the Force Awakens version of the character has barely made the jump to merchandise. Despite his brief appearance in Episode VII, there's much excitement surrounding the elder Jedi in the sequel trilogy, with Star Wars: Episode VIII rumors hinting at a very powerful Force user. If what's been reported is accurate, many will want to celebrate the sequel trilogy Luke by purchasing his Sideshow figure.
Each Star Wars film that's featured stormtroopers has provided a new variation of the armor, and Sideshow has turned just about every one of them into a figure. Since it's the latest iteration, the shoretrooper is the one that's the most eye-catching, with the blue breastplate making it more colorful than the other Imperial soldiers. The Death troopers are poised to be the breakout scene stealers in Rogue One, but the shoretroopers are sure to find their fair share of fans as well. Sideshow wouldn't have moved forward on any of these unless they were confident they would sell, and they will probably make a pretty penny when it's all said and done.
