Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had a lot to prove as Disney's first feature, non-chaptered spinoff to the Star Wars brand. Fortunately, the film has received a solid critical reception and is estimated to do extremely well its opening weekend. Set just before the film that started it all, this new story features a small band of Rebels hunting down the plans to the original Death Star. Among these is K-2SO, and Imperial security droid who has been reprogrammed to serve the Alliance. His amusingly unfiltered personality was brought to life through a mo-cap performance by Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Moana), and he's already being lauded as one of the most entertaining aspects of the film.
Toy collection has long been a pastime of hardcore Star Wars fans, but the Hong Kong-based producer, Hot Toys, has made a name for itself by taking collectibles to the next level. Their licensing has covered everything from modern mega hits like Marvel and DC films to older classics like Alien and Back to the Future. Their recent acquisition of the rights to produce Star Wars figures has already resulted in collectibles from both the original trilogy and last year's The Force Awakens. They have additionally unveiled upcoming figures from Rogue One, including the Death Troopers, Darth Vader, Jyn Erso, and more.
Hot Toys has recently opened pre-orders for their sixth scale K-2SO figure, who stands just over 14 inches tall. The figure was previously spotted alongside their Jyn reveal, but they've now released additional images and full details on a collectible which includes light up eyes and 30 points of articulation. (These include "rolling eyeballs", assumably so he can be posed in his common expression of irritation.). Lighter on accessories than other Hot Toys of his ilk, K-2SO comes with only a blaster pistol, a grenade, and a specially designed figure stand. The figure is now available for pre-order over at Sideshow Collectibles for $229.99 and is expected to ship between October and December of 2017.
The pre-order success of the existing Rogue One figures will likely determine how many members of Jyn's team make it to production. Chirrut Îmwe have already been confirmed for pre-order, and we've seen images of Baze Malbus in the wild, but there is surprisingly little news of Captain Cassian Andor or renegade Imperial Pilot, Bodhi Rook.
