Disney/Lucasfilm isn't holding a Star Wars panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year, but a galaxy far, far away has a presence at the 2016 'Con nonetheless. To be exact, character costumes from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - the Star Wars standalone film that arrives in December - are on display in the floor room at the San Diego Convention Center.
Most of the Rogue One costumes featured at the 'Con are 'modeled' by blank-faced mannequins and were also present and accounted for at Star Wars Celebration in Europe too... save for one, that is. That would be a mysterious alien, whom Disney/Lucasfilm has now confirmed is named Edrio Two Tubes and revealed details about, concerning his role in the Rogue One narrative.
The Edrio Two Tubes full-sized figure is currently on display at the Lucasfilm Pavilion on the San Diego Convention Center floor. Here is the official Disney/Lucasfilm description of the character and his role in Rogue One, followed by official high-res photos released of the Edrio Two Tubes figure:
Edrio Two Tubes is a mercenary pilot who flies alongside his eggmate, Benthic. The two share the nickname derived from the breathing apparatus that allows their Tognath physiology to process oxygen atmospheres. Edrio’s home world Yar Togna was conquered and occupied by the Empire, forcing him to flee as a refugee. Desiring to strike back at the Empire, Edrio and Benthic have allied with Saw Gerrera.
Saw Gerrera, who (as mentioned above) works with Edrio and Benthic, is a character who originated in the animated Star Wars: Clone Wars TV show and is played as an older man by Forest Whitaker in Rogue One. Edrio and Benthic might not even have any dialogue to deliver during their live-action debut in the Star Wars universe, but may still play a key role in the film - as Gerrera is an important ally to the rebellion against the Galactic Empire; one who assists the Rebels in the movie on their mission to capture the plans to the original Death Star (despite not being a central member of the Rebel Alliance due to his controversial battle tactics).
Other key characters in Rogue One include protagonist Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), as well as Jyn's fellow Rebels: Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), Bohdi Rook (Riz Ahmed), and Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) among them. Meanwhile, on Team Empire, we have Imperial weapons research and development head Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) - and somewhere in the middle, Jyn's father and former(?) Imperial scientist, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen).
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in December 16, 2016, followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII on December 15, 2017, the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25, 2018, Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019, and the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.
