Anyone saying Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker spoilers out loud to a Burger King app in Germany is apparently eligible for a free Whopper, according to new reports. Set to release less than a week from the time of this writing, The Rise of Skywalker sees director J.J. Abrams returning to the Star Wars franchise after Rian Johnson's fairly divisive latest main entry in the series, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Heavily advertised as not only the end of the most recent Star Wars trilogy but the entire nine-film-long Skywalker sagaStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has consistently hinted at the return of long-running series villain Emperor Palpatine as well as some sort of dramatic shift for the trilogy's main protagonist Rey. Many recent TV spots for Rise of Skywalker have focused on Rey's mysterious backstory while also leaning heavily into the series' well-documented penchant for nostalgia, all but promising fans that the multiple dangling plot threads from the previous two films will finally be tied up, hopefully in surprising and satisfying ways.

While it seems like any official information at all about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker at this point would feel like a spoiler, apparently such information can be profitable in certain countries, or at least edible. According to an article by THRsaying The Rise of Skywalker spoilers out loud in Germany can qualify patrons for a free Whopper hamburger. To apply, fans need to download the Burger King app and read a Star Wars spoiler out loud into their microphone, which will then allow them to download a coupon for their free Whopper.

"We wanted to challenge people's Whopper love and put it to the ultimate test," said Klaus Shamäing, Burger King Germany's director of marketing. The company also released a commercial in the country (pictured above in its YouTube spoiler-free version) which showed a Burger King restaurant absolutely filled with Star Was: The Rise of Skywalker spoilers, but THR reports all of the spoilers mentioned seem to be referencing characters like "the hairy roaring creature" and "the young sword lady," meaning the advertising company is likely trying to avoid violating Disney's copyright and may not be officially sanctioned.

It's an interesting experiment Burger King is trying, although fans of The Rise of Skywalker will likely choose their enjoyment of seeing the film fresh over a one-time meal purchase. However, there are always those viewers who prefer watching movies after already knowing all of the most important plot points beforehand, and for that one particular subgroup of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker watchers, Burger King Germany has free Whoppers waiting.
