Check out how Palpatine's giant throne room in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was created in cool behind the scenes images. The evil Emperor's return was the major conflict of the final film in the Skywalker saga, which premiered last year. Throne rooms seem to be a key component of many Star Wars films, but Palpatine's by far trumps them all.

The Rise of Skywalker had the monumental task of wrapping up decades worth of Star Wars movies in one final closing chapter. Fans were surprised to hear Palpatine's laugh in the movie trailer, and questioned how he could've possibly survived after his fall in Return of the Jedi. The film's novelization delved deeper into how he survived, explaining that the Palpatine in the ninth movie was a clone. The movie itself however, was vague on his return, although that didn't lessen the threat he posed to Rey and company. In spite of the confusion, Palpatine served a purpose in The Rise of Skywalker. That purpose came to a dramatic conclusion in a monumental throne room that would make even Darth Vader himself feel miniscule.

Star Wars fans can check out these cool behind the scenes images of Palpatine's giant throne room, which were seen in the making-of documentary included in the home media release. While the end result was impressively dramatic and certainly meant to intimidate anyone who dared to enter, seeing the set in progress is just as interesting. Check out the photos below.

The throne room acted as the focal point of the closing of many chapters: Rey closing the chapter on the Sith with the help of the Jedi, Ben Solo redeeming himself by finally breaking free of Palpatine's clutches and saving Rey's life, and Palpatine finally meeting his end thanks to his own granddaughter. Many fans and critics alike felt like Palpatine's returned cheapened the entirety of Return of the Jedi, while others were excited to see him one last time to finish the Skywalker saga for good. What continues to be Star War's greatest strength is its passionate fans. Despite endless debates and discussions, the fire fans feel for the stories and character will never be extinguished.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was meant to be an end, but in many ways the movie was a new beginning. Not many franchises have lasted successfully for decades on end and is still going strong to this day. The heart and soul of Star Wars will always be the compelling characters that kept fans drawn in from the beginning to the end. Palpatine himself was far from being a good guy, but it was still incredibly thrilling to watch his rise to power and his ultimate demise, because it allowed the heroes to triumph and bring their character arcs to a satisfying close. The next Star Wars film has a lot of potential for new beginnings, and hopefully it will be the worth the wait.
