Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker's Ice Planet Explained

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker Ice Planet Kijimi

The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker gave viewers a proper look into the new ice planet, Kijimi. The last chapter of the Skywalker saga is expected to introduce a number of locations that are previously unseen in any other live-action Star Wars film, including the ominous ice planet that the First Order attacks in the final Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer.

Prior to the trailer releases for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the only revelations surrounding the new planet came in connection with Zorii Bliss. The character, played by Keri Russell, is said to call Kijimi home. The snow-covered planet is also the location of the Thieves' Quarter, a hangout for rogues like Zorii. During the movie, Zorii leads a group of smugglers named the Spice Runners of Kijimi. Droidsmith Babu Frik is a member of the smuggling gang since he operates out of the planet.

The latest footage provides a key look into the dangerous terrain of Kijimi. The planet features a mountainous terrain with a frigid climate. There is a scene in the trailer that shows a group of TIE fighters flying near a gigantic iceberg. The location of this scene is undoubtedly that of Kijimi, putting the planet in the war between the First Order and the Resistance. There is also evidence suggesting that Emperor Palpatine has a connection to Kijimi.

Rey face the Emperor in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

A stunning scene in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer features a shot of an Imperial Star Destroyer emerging from the ice. There has been confirmation that the Emperor has a fleet of Imperial Star Destroyers, hinting that he could be keeping them hidden under Kijimi's surface. The Emperor's haunting throne might also be located somewhere on the ice planet. The aesthetic of the throne room shares the same color palette of the scenes on Kijimi. When Rey comes face-to-face with the Emperor at the end of the Rise of Skywalker trailer, she looks to be standing on an icy surface leading viewers to believe that Kijimi is indeed the home of Palpatine's base.

Rey doesn't look to be the only member of the Resistance making the trek to Kijimi in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. though. Zorri is seen standing next to Finn, Rey, and Poe in the trailer, thus revealing that she teams up with the good guys. The crew is conversing with C-3P0 who is being worked on by Babu the droidsmith. This leads one to believe that the group is preparing for something in or near Kijimi, especially since they are wearing cold-weather gear. If Kijimi is the Emperor's base, having Zorri on their side will be an advantage since she knows the planet well.

At this point, it's assumed that Kijimi will play a key role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Just as Crait became the location for the climactic scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the new ice planet could be a game-changer in Rey's journey with the Resistance. It's also a given that Emperor Palpatine, now in his physical form, will complicate matters within the galactic civil war.
