George Lucas had a hidden vocal cameo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. More than a month after the film debuted in theaters, fans continue to unpack its various secrets. Recently, it was revealed a few ships from the Star Wars Resistance animated series appeared in the epic Battle of Exegol, and the visual dictionary tie-in book contains numerous details that help flesh out and explain elements from the movie. With more materials on the way (including the art book and the home media release), there's probably much more waiting for viewers to discover.

Fans are always interested to discover cameos in the movies. Dating back to the original trilogy, Star Wars crew members have been making cameos in the films, including George Lucas. The director appeared onscreen in Revenge of the Sith, portraying Baron Papanoida during the opera house scene. The Rise of Skywalker continued this tradition, most notably with legendary composer John Williams finally getting a Star Wars cameo. And while Lucas is no longer involved with the franchise (even skipping the Rise of Skywalker premiere), there was still a spot for him in The Rise of Skywalker.

ABC News reports the Star Wars creator has a vocal cameo in Rise of Skywalker. Apparently, a scream in the film is Lucas' voice. Unfortunately, sound designers David Acord and Matthew Wood wouldn't say when in the movie this scream can be heard or even if it is Lucas. All they confirmed is the presence of a "special scream" in The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars A New Hope George Lucas Mark Hamill

This wouldn't be the first time what's known as "The George" was worked into a Disney Star Wars movie. The audio bit can also be heard in Rogue One and The Last Jedi, so devoted fans have something to keep an ear out for next time they rewatch those movies. If Acord and Wood keep being coy, perhaps a viewer can spot the Easter egg and verify the Rise of Skywalker scream is indeed Lucas'. Once the film is out on Digital and Blu-ray, it'll be easier to do a thorough examination of the set pieces, carefully analyzing the sound design to pick up on any distinct screams. The Battle of Exegol, where the team seemed to throw everything and the kitchen sink at the screen, could be a reasonable spot to place "The George."

It would be fun if "The George" became a recurring Star Wars Easter egg that popped up in the upcoming films that will hit theaters in December 2022-2026. Everyone working on current Star Wars projects knows they're greatly indebted to Lucas, and this scream is an amusing way to tip a hat to the Star Wars creator. Lucas retired from filmmaking several years ago, but he can still be part of the Star Wars movies in some capacity.
