A pair of fan couples tied the knot ahead of the opening night screenings of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker at Alamo Drafthouse. The South Lamar Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas held the ceremonies on Thursday night, right before the first screening of the latest and final film in the nine-part Skywalker Saga, which hit theaters later that evening to much buzz and debate on social media.

The two couples, Andy & Wendee Forbes and Matt & Mallory Anderegg, are longtime customers of the movie theater chain and have made it a tradition to attend the opening nights of each recent Star Wars film. Hence, they decided to hold their weddings at Alamo Drafthouse, who went all out to provide a Star Wars-themed experience for the happy couples on the biggest day of their lives, as they were united in what the officiant of the event called “galactic matrimony.”

The ceremonies were held in the lobby and were filled with Star Wars decorations and guests in costume (including a baby dressed as Jedi Master Yoda and several Imperial Stormtroopers and Sith Lords), with the brides wearing Princess Leia's iconic white dress/Cinnabon hairdo combo and the grooms dressed as Han (Forbes) and a Stormtrooper (Anderegg). An on-site orchestra played John Williams’s “The Imperial March” as an adorable pair of flower girls dressed as Jedi preceded the brides walking down the aisle. The weddings themselves were officiated by a minister dressed as Rebellion Leader Mon Mothma, who worked some Star Wars terminology into her sermon. The couples vowed to care for each other “in peacetime and rebellion,” as the minister told them that love is “the true force that binds the galaxy together.” You can check out a video of the event below, and pictures courtesy of Erika Rich.

While some may find the idea of a Star Wars-themed wedding silly, this story remains a touching one. Love has always served as one of the central themes of the saga, even if the actual onscreen romances usually end poorly. Certainly, the love story of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala is a tragedy that set the course for both the original and sequel trilogy.

The recent films, such as Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, may prove divisive with fans and critics, but it’s always nice to be reminded of the ways the timeless Star Wars franchise can bring people together, especially in something as joyous as true love. So, congratulations to the Forbes and the Andereggs. Screen Rant wishes you long and happy marriages, and may the Force be with you.
