A new featurette video for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hints at what might be the film's final battle between Rey and Kylo Ren. Scheduled for release in a little less than a month, the upcoming final installment in the Star Wars Skywalker saga is one of the most hotly-anticipated films of the entire decade, as it seeks not only to close out the plot threads which started in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi but also marks the end of the entire original Star Wars story.

It's now been five years since the release of the trailer for The Force Awakens, and since then fans of the series have only gotten more divided. While The Rise of Skywalker must offer an ending to eight previous rounds of storytelling, it also has the unenviable task of trying to reunite viewers to Star Wars who felt either left out or annoyed with the way director Rian Johnson approached the series' last installment.

Thanks to a new featurette posted to YouTube, fans now have a slightly better idea of how this upcoming ending might play out. Although mostly focused on behind-the-scenes clips and things viewers have already seen for the majority of its runtime, the last few moments in the recently posted video (embedded below) shows both Rey and Kylo Ren looking quite ready for battle on the new desert planet of Pasana.

New to Rise of Skywalker, Pasana joins Jakku, Tatooine, and many other desert planets in the Star Wars universe. This is also the same planet featured in the very first trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, the one which showed Rey preparing, and then succeeding in, back-flipping over a TIE Fighter presumably driven by Kylo Ren. Re-organizing these shots, it would be easy to picture a battle which first starts as Rey facing off against Kylo in his ship and then escalates to the two fighting one-on-one in the desert.

A simple fight between two combatants in the sand may not sound very exciting, but it would bring the Star Wars franchise back to its simple roots while also serving as an homage to one of the most iconic scenes in The Clone Wars animated television show. Although fans still have to wait until December 20th to find out how the final installment in this four decade-long science-fiction action-adventure franchise plays out, all signs are pointing to a showdown at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker between Rey and Kylo Ren, presumably with the fate of the entire galaxy at stake.
