There was never any doubt Star Wars fans would be heartbroken when the secrets of Kylo Ren's creation were finally told in detail, bringing a tragic conclusion to the original trilogy. But now that the first official details are out for Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, fans may still get more than they bargained for.
Some may think that the corruption, temptation, and betrayal of Ben Solo was summarized in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and its sequence of flashbacks between Ben and Luke, on the night the student rebelled. But even the single glimpse that's been given of how Snoke trained Kylo Ren has already had massive implications for the larger saga. With a four-issue comic series following "Ben Solo's path to his true self," the lingering questions may finally be resolved for good. And it all starts with The Rise of Kylo Ren #1 this December.
The coming miniseries from writer Charles Soule (Darth Vader) and Will Sliney (Spider-Man 2099) has been shrouded, fittingly, behind its own impenetrable mask. With good reason, since the prequel series is expected to shed light on some of the most pivotal questions building to Kylo's mission in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. When and why did the first of a new generation of Jedi Knights stray from the path? How did the mysterious Knights of Ren form? And just what does Kylo mean when he says he "will finish what Darth Vader started?"
