Here's how many days Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith takes place over. The Star Wars prequel trilogy came to an end with the release of Revenge of the Sith in 2005. As the final chapter of the prequels, the movie delivered the long-awaited turn of Anakin Skywalker to the dark side, and showed Order 66 and the fall of the Jedi Order. All of these events, and much more, were packed into the 2 hours and 20-minute blockbuster.

Star Wars: Revenge of Sith picks up three years after Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi's adventures in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. Due to the scope of the epic story and some plot elements, fans have long debated how much time passes during the movie. Some initially thought it took place over the course of several months due to Padmé's pregnancy, while Legends materials had the entire story span just four days. But, what is the answer based on the entire Star Wars canon?

In Revenge of the Sith, there are a few clear signs of how much time has passed, and the events of the film span 4 days. The Battle of Coruscant, Count Dooku's death, and Anakin and Obi-Wan saving Palpatine all happen in one day, with Anakin having his first vision of Padmé dying in childbirth that night. The second day consists of Anakin getting his assignment to spy on Palpatine and concludes with the Legend of Darth Plagueis the Wise speech. Day three begins with Kenobi being sent on a mission to find General Grievous, includes Order 66, and ends with Anakin arriving on Mustafar. Day four begins with Palpatine's Senate speech declaring the end of the Republic and concludes with Anakin and Obi-Wan fighting on Mustafar.

This timeline of events is further supported by Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7. The Seige of Mandalore four-part arc that wrapped up the show fits with this span of time. Anakin and Obi-Wan leave to save Palpatine at the start, with the Seige of Mandalore beginning on Day 2 of Revenge of the Sith. The next two episodes happen during Day 3, as Mace Windu's line about a plot to destroy the Jedi is included and Ahsoka has to face Order 66.

As for the question of Padmé's pregnancy, Star Wars: The Clone Wars can once again be used to disprove the belief that Revenge of the Sith takes place over several months. Season 7 of the animated show made it clear that Padmé is pregnant and her appearance shows as much. While it doesn't make complete sense why Anakin just finds out about the pregnancy at the start of Revenge of the Sith, there's little doubt that she is several months into carrying the twins. It appears that the reason Padmé doesn't look as pregnant as she actually is in the movie is the result of her clothes, which manage to conceal her pregnant belly.

There is one more part of Revenge of the Sith's timeline that isn't clear, and that's when the final scenes take place. The movie's ending shows Anakin getting the Darth Vader suit for the first time, as well as Luke and Leia being given to their new families after Padmé's death. These events could take place right after Day 4, but it's just as plausible that there are some unidentifiable jumps forward in time. So, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith's codas might go beyond four days, but that is how long the bulk of the movie takes place.
