Warning: This list contains SPOILERS for The Book Of Boba Fett.

The Book of Boba Fett has continued a fun and curious tradition established in The Mandalorian. It seems several denizens of Jabba's palace survived the complete and total destruction of the Khetanna, Jabba The Hutt's sail barge in Return of the Jedi. While some of the survivors are obvious, like Boba Fett, others have been much more of a surprise and lead to questions about how they lived.

Star Wars comics and books established that a number of characters survived the explosion of the sail barge at the Sarlaac Pit. While some of those same characters have since been confirmed to be survivors in canon, a few remain question marks. Their proximity to confirmed survivors does give fans some hope that they also will be shown to have survived in live-action at some point in the near future.

Boba Fett

Boba Fett emerges from a sand dune in The Book of Boba Fett.

Boba Fett is by the far the highest-profile survivor of the battle at the Pit of Carkoon. For almost forty years, Boba Fett was thought dead in canon, swallowed by the Sarlaac monster after leaving the relative security of the sail barge to take on Luke Skywalker. Boba Fett surviving Return of the Jedi is one of the biggest and greatest revisions to Star Wars canon.

Boba Fett's escape of the Sarlaac closely mirrors the 1984 Marvel comic book story "Jawas of Doom" from issue #81 of the original series. He escapes from the monster and is captured by Jawas scavenging the wreckage of the barge.

Bib Fortuna

The Mandalorian’s Bib Fortuna Actor Celebrates His Star Wars Return

Bib Fortuna is one of the biggest surprise survivors in canon. As the majordomo to Jabba the Hutt, he was present on the sail barge at the Pit of Carkoon. He was assumed lost when it exploded but was shown to have taken Jabba's throne at the end of The Mandalorian season two.

He didn't survive much longer after that, but it's not clear at all how he survived the explosion of the sail barge. It's possible he and others leaped from the ship as it was exploding, and then made his way back to the emptied Jabba's palace.

Bossk

Bossk appears on the sail barge in Return of the Jedi.

Bossk is somewhat hard to spot in Return of the Jedi, but he is present on the sail barge. What isn't clear in the canon is his survival after the Pit of Carkoon, though non-canon sources have shown him to have survived the explosion of the Khetanna.

Books and comics set after Return of the Jedi show Bossk alive and still active as a bounty hunter. He also has more run-ins with Boba Fett. Given the large number of Trandoshans in the series so far, Bossk is one of the most likely characters to show up in The Book Of Boba Fett.

EV-9D9

EV-9D9 tends bar in The Mandalorian.

A character whose fate in the canon is certain is EV-9D9. EV-9D9 appeared in the dungeon underneath Jabba's palace and was in charge of reprogramming and refitting droids for service in the palace and on the sail barge. One of the biggest surprises of The Mandalorian was seeing the droid as a bartender.

EV-9D9 wasn't a bartender in just any old place, but was behind the bar in the cantina in Mos Eisley, made famous in the first Star Wars movie. It's also amusing as the cantina had an infamous 'no droids' policy when Luke Skywalker first visited it.

Tessek

Tessek is the squid-like Quarren visible throughout Jabba's palace and sail barge in Return of the Jedi. While live-action has yet to confirm the character's status, Legends sources have shown Tessek to have survived the destruction of the Khetanna.

In the short story "A Free Quarren in the Palace: Tessek's Tale" from the anthology Tales From Jabba's Palace, Tessek escapes on a speeder bike. His luck is short-lived though, as he's eventually transformed into a B'omarr monk, the spider-like droid with human brains in jars seen skittering around the palace.

Saelt-Marae

Saelt-Marae, best known to Star Wars toy collectors as "Yak Face," is another Legends survivor of the sail barge. He is clearly seen on the barge throughout the Pit of Carkoon sequence, but a number of non-canon sourcebooks have shown him to be alive.

The details of his escape are vague, but Saelt-Marae got off the sail barge before it exploded. He also made off with a lot of Jabba the Hutt's wealth and essential documents, using them to increase his own power and status in the galaxy.

Droopy McCool

Droopy McCool in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Droopy McCool is a member of the Max Rebo Band and presumed lost with the sail barge, but recent developments in The Book of Boba Fett have improved his chances. The survival of his bandmate Max gives Droopy some hope, and Legends also had him as a survivor.

"And the Band Played On: The Band's Tale" from Tales From Jabba's Palace reveals Droopy survived the explosion of the sail barge by jumping from the ship before it exploded. He left the band and went his separate ways after that.

Sy Snootles

Sy Snootles sings in Return of the Jedi.

Sy Snootles is at the heart of the "Jedi Rocks" sequence in Return of the Jedi, one of the worst revisions to the original Star Wars trilogy. Some fans may have been ok with Sy's fate remaining a mystery as a result, but Legends did have her surviving with her bandmates.

The same short story that established Droopy McCool and Max Rebo as survivors also granted Sy Snootles a second chance. But her life took a bad turn after. She became addicted to spice, a drug in the Star Wars universe, and never really did much after.

8-D8

8D8 in Book of Boba Fett

8-D8 is one of the most unexpected survivors of the sail barge. The skeletal droid in Jabba's dungeon who tortured other droids appeared in The Book of Boba Fett as a translator of sorts for Boba Fett, far removed from his previous duties in the palace.

8-D8 also has a surprisingly erudite personality for his known background. He's voiced by Matt Berry, the writer, actor, and singer fans have seen in other movies and TV shows like What We Do In The Shadows and Toast of London.

Max Rebo

Max Rebo plays music in The Book of Boba Fett.

Another big surprise for fans in The Book of Boba Fett is Max Rebo. The blue Ortolan also lived in Legends by jumping to safety. His presence in the Sanctuary run by Garsa Fwip indicates that his bandmates may have survived as well.

Max Rebo has clearly moved on though, playing a new version of his organ alongside a Bith - possibly a member of the Modal Nodes from the cantina scene in A New Hope. Max seems to have done very well for himself since the destruction of the sail barge.
