Star Wars Resistance Video: Meet the Members of Team Fireball

A new Star Wars Resistance featurette offers a proper introduction to the animated TV show's main heroes, aka. Team Fireball. Created by Lucasfilm Animation's overseer Dave Filoni, Resistance features returning live-action Star Wars movie characters Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), but largely focuses on a brand-new set of protagonists.

Whereas the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels (which Filoni also worked on) took place before the original Star Wars movie trilogy, Resistance jumps ahead in the franchise timeline to six months prior to Episode VII - The Force Awakens. The TV series will thusly explore the early days of the resistance formed by General Leia Organa (who's voiced by Rachel Butera on Resistance) against the growing threat of the First Order. Depending on how long the show ultimately runs, Resistance may eventually overlap with the events in the Star Wars film sequel trilogy.

However, until that happens, Resistance looks to focus more on Team Fireball's efforts to make a living by sky racing, rather than the brewing galactic civil war to come. Leading the way is Kazuda Xiono (voiced by Christopher Sean), a young and eager, but inexperienced pilot whose life is forever changed after Poe recruits him to carry out a top-secret mission: investigate the First Order. For more on what to expect from Kazuda aka. Kaz and the rest of his adopted family, watch the video below:

In addition to Kaz, this Resistance video offers a quick introduction to the rest of Team Fireball; including, seasoned rebel fighter and the team's father figure Jared Yeager (Scott Lawrence), scrappy mechanic Tam Ryvora (Susie McGrath), and chipper, if also eccentric, non-human tech whiz Neeku Vozo (Josh Brener). According to the official synopsis for the one-hour Resistance premiere, "The Recruit", Kaz is ordered by Poe to keep his mission a secret from the rest of Team Fireball. It's probably safe to assume that Kaz only manages to hold onto that secret for so long, given his clumsy tendencies.

Judging by this featurette and the Resistance trailer, this new Star Wars cartoon series will start off as an upbeat adventure that's intended more for kids than necessarily fans of all ages. However, it's worth remembering that Clone Wars and Rebels were both geared towards the juice box crowd in the beginning, yet gradually evolved to explore complicated themes and political conflicts within the Star Wars universe. There's certainly the potential for Resistance to do the same, while still offering plenty in the way of bright anime-inspired visuals and playful character interactions.
