Disney Channel's Star Wars Resistance season 2 trailer teases the beginning of the end, as Lucasfilm confirms the show will end with the upcoming second season. The Star Wars universe has expanded to the small screen over the last decade with Star Wars: The Clone Wars kicking off the movement in 2008. The series is set to be revived for a final season on Disney+, but the absence of it on the air brought four seasons of Star Wars Rebels. When the latter ended in early 2018, Disney and Lucasfilm quickly announced that Star Wars Resistance would be the next animated series.

Star Wars Resistance launched in the fall of last year, introducing viewers to the young pilot Kazuda Xiono (Christopher Sean). The first season followed him working as a Resistance spy and took place immediately before Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The series was generally well-received and performed well enough to earn a second season renewal. Fans have been left waiting for more information on season 2, and now the first trailer for the final season has arrived.

Lucasfilm just released the first Star Wars Resistance season 2 trailer and made the announcement of the show's ending in the process. The short-lived series will begin airing its final episodes on Disney Channel starting Oct. 6, but fans can get a first look at what is in store now. The trailer offers the first details on the story and reveals that Kylo Ren (voiced by Matthew Wood) will make an appearance in the final season. Joe Manganiello, Daveed Diggs, and Lucy Lawless have all joined the voice cast as well.

Star Wars Resistance season 2 will take place concurrently with the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and build to the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December. Kaz and everyone else aboard the Colossus are on the run from the First Order following their escape at the end of the first season. But, they are still being pursued by Agent Tierny and Commander Pyre, who are threatened by Kylo for their failures. The trailer indicates Kaz and his friends are looking to find a permanent home for the Colossus, which will lead them to meet some new allies and enemies.

These details on Star Wars Resistance show a natural continuation of the story, but season 2 serving as a series finale also highlights the limitations the series had. While The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels were able to fill in holes in completed stories, Star Wars Resistance had to navigate an ongoing and changing one with the new trilogy. But, since this final season will be airing in the lead up to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the trailer's teases of Kylo Ren's leadership style and an ancient power source, might indicate Star Wars Resistance will be able to add context to how the Skywalker Saga will end.
