Star Wars: The Last Jedi sees the Resistance fleet run out of fuel when fleeing the First Order, almost resulting in their total destruction. Now in the Star Wars Resistance season 2 premiere, a possible solution to the Resistance's low-fuel problem has been revealed - could it have made a difference?

Star Wars Resistance is an animated series set during the Star Wars sequel trilogy era. Season 1 starts just prior to the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and season 2 picks up events amid The Last Jedi. It follows a young Resistance spy, Kaz, as he investigates the First Order's presence on the fueling station, Colossus. In the Star Wars Resistance season 1 finale, it's revealed that the Colossus is also a spaceship with a hyperdrive, leading Kaz and his friends to launch the station so they can rendezvous with the rest of the Resistance on the planet D'Qar. Unfortunately, they don't enter the coordinates for D'Qar before making the jump, so no one has any idea exactly where in the galaxy they'll wind up.

In the Star Wars Resistance season 2 premiere, the Colossus, surprisingly, drops out of hyperspace only three parsecs (or roughly 10 light years) away from D'Qar. However, the station took quite the beating in its escape from the First Order, so many of the ship's systems - including long range communications -  aren't working. Still, with how relatively close the Colossus comes to D'Qar, it's easy to see how the presence of fueling station could have made all the difference. Were the Colossus to meet up with the Resistance before the First Order arrives at the start of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, they could have resupplied the depleted fleet, avoiding the many lives and ships lost during their escape.

Star Wars Resistance General Organa Poe Kaz meeting

The Resistance is at their absolute lowest during The Last Jedi, and it's tragic to learn a solution to at least one problem was nearby all along. Sadly, a reunion between Kaz and the remainder of the Resistance just isn't meant to be - at least not at this point in the story. We know the Resistance fleet will continue to be picked off by the First Order as they make their way to Crait, and by the end of The Last Jedi, only General Organa, Poe Dameron, and a handful of fighters remain. There may yet be a reunion for Kaz and the Resistance, and considering their entire fighting force can now fit inside the Millenium Falcon, more allies are desperately needed.

Star Wars Resistance season 2 is the final season for the show, wrapping up its story just in time for the grand conclusion of the saga in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. There are still many episodes of Resistance left to go, however, and it's expected that the series will in some way lay groundwork for The Rise of Skywalker. This may involve something along the lines of the Colossus coming to the Resistance's aide after Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Battle of Crait, offering assistance to the ragtag group so that they can begin to reorganize and prepare to take on Kylo Ren and First Order once again. It's unlikely (though not impossible) that the end of Star Wars Resistance plays directly in to The Rise of Skywalker, but there's sure to be at least some impact on that state of the Resistance when the saga concludes later this year.
