Star Wars: Republic Commando, the fan-favorite first-person tactical shooter is now available on Nintendo Switch. The port, which is also releasing for PlayStation 4 today, has been developed by Aspyr and marks the first time that the title has been available on non-Xbox consoles. This new port of Star Wars: Republic Commando comes with updated controls and features to make it more user-friendly for modern audiences.

Nintendo has officially announced that Star Wars: Republic Commando is available for Nintendo Switch in a launch trailer. The game is priced at $14.99 and can be downloaded directly from the Nintendo eShop as a digital purchase. Putting players into the shoes of an elite clone trooper known as "38," it follows Delta Squad throughout the Clone Wars era of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Star Wars: Republic Commando also features a sophisticated tactical system and AI-controlled allies that players must work with to overcome enemies.

The release of Star Wars: Republic Commando on Nintendo Switch comes not long after Disney announced a new approach to games based on the franchise. EA no longer has exclusive rights to Star Wars games, with Ubisoft and LucasFilm games all working on new projects set in the galaxy far, far away. This likely means that players will see even more Star Wars titles and ports of older releases in the next few years as Disney allows more developers to work on the franchise.
