Fan game Star Wars Redemption shows just how epic a Clone Wars game could be, with the game putting players in the role of a Jedi Knight during the pivotal prequel-era conflict. Plenty of games have explored the Clone Wars era in some capacity, namely the Star Wars Battlefront series and Star Wars: Republic Commando. However, few have replicated the look and feel of the beloved 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, and by doing that, Redemption shows what Lucasfilm is missing out on.

Star Wars Redemption is a fan game that was released in 2021. Inspired primarily by the 2008 Clone Wars cartoon, Redemption follows an original Jedi protagonist as they take part in pivotal battles across the galaxy. The game has a third-person, action-adventure focus, with players also able to take control of starfighters and engage in space battles like in Star Wars Battlefront 2. While still only a fan project, Redemption has developed plenty of buzz since its release last year, and that looks set to continue with the release of a new planet, called Lumberia.

What players and fans may find uniquely fulfilling about Star Wars Redemption is the project's robust and tactful art direction and graphics rendering. The intricate and meticulous work done on scenery, set pieces, and various assets explore the natural and scenic aesthetic of Star Wars'' worlds. From caves packed with luminescent moss to the shining libraries of the Jedi temples, the world of Redemption is glowing and full of color - just like the 2008 Clone Wars cartoon. Prospective players can browse Etienne Beschet's asset store in order to find the free download link for the early alpha demo. The animations and model work are in a similar state of polish to the environments, along with some advanced lighting and water reflection features.

Star Wars Redemption Fan Game Has Plenty Of Clone Wars Planets To Visit

The new Star Wars planet players can visit, Lumberia, seems made expressly to show off this fairly unique approach to Star Wars. Jedi: Fallen Order also focused on nature in its settings but took a more film-like approach to the source material, and after the titular Clone Wars. Star Wars Redemption currently features levels on Geonosis, a Republic Venator, a Droid Control ship, Coruscant, and the new planet Lumberia. There are also some levels piloting spaceships that have aesthetics on par with the quality of the on-foot levels. Lumberia especially shows off the aesthetic capabilities of Redemption with random weather effects every time the player loads into the map, along with areas specifically designed to showcase the lighting and water effects. Star Wars Redemption's Jedi lightsabers give off ambient colored light, moss sets dark areas in a blue tint, and the surface of clear water smudges and stretches the shapes beneath.

Star Wars Redemption is fairly unique - both as a fan project and as a Star Wars title. Its resemblance to The Clone Wars art style distinguishes it from similar fan projects and those officially published by EA and Lucasfilm. Plenty of Star Wars games have shone a detailed, photo-realistic light on the galaxy far, far away, but Star Wars Redemption does so in a new light. Here's hoping that it'll be instructive to Lucasfilm's future efforts, and that its creator gets to expand it further going forward.
