A brand new Star Wars Rebels featurette shines a light on Mon Mothma's appearance in the show's third season. The popular Disney XD series was able to successfully launch new characters from the Star Wars lore with the whole Ghost Crew quickly becoming fan favorites. But to make it feel more connected to the bigger franchise, folks behind the show had to incorporate familiar elements and character for it to capture the space opera's unique vibe and among the many things they have reintroduced via the show is Mon Mothma, former Galactic Senator and one of the Rebellion's cornerstone personas.

The Star Wars franchise has long been known to introduce strong female characters from Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia turned General Organa, Natalie Portman's Padme Amidala, Daisy Ridley's Rey and Rebels' very own Hera and Sabine. But all throughout the different eras of the aforementioned characters (except Rey), Mon Mothma had been a silent but fierce warrior on the Rebellion's fence. Starting off as a politician who had for years and years tried to persuade her colleagues to not turn a blind eye on the Empire's wrongdoings, we saw last season on Rebels how she finally comes out and joins the battle to further her cause.

In this brand new clip obtained by SYFY (which you can watch above) in light of the release of Rebels season 3 on Blu-Ray, VP of Lucasfilm Animation Carrie Beck shares some insights as to how they crafted Mon Mothma's involvement with the Ghost Crew as seen in the show's previous outing:

"When we see her, most often, prior to this, is often in briefing situations, often up in front of a crowd. One of the things that we were able to do, specifically having her and Hera together in the cockpit, is you actually get something a little more intimate...You're getting a moment that's really about her own ideology, her own personal philosophy, her personal commitment and what it means to her. Those aren't moments that we've gotten to have with that character before because the opportunity hadn't presented itself."

Mon Mothma and other rebels in Star Wars Rebels

Mon Mothma's bit in Rebels bridges the gap on her public transition as a politician in the prequel trilogy to her role as one of the leaders of the Rebellion in Star Wars: Episode  VI - Return of the Jedi. The character also made an appearance in last year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story where she mainly headed the committee that brought Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) to the front lines against the Empire. In the Star Wars anthology movie, we also see her reuniting with her political comrade Bail Organa, who was also on the opposition side in terms of the Galactic politics.

It is unknown as of yet whether Mon Mothma will be a regular presence in Star Wars Rebels final season, but with the small pockets of the Rebellion slowly coming together, there is a good chance that she will pop a couple of times to check on the Ghost Crew. Additionally, a lot of narrative loose ends are expected to be tied up in the show's fourth outing including that of Ahsoka's whereabouts and the fate of the Darksaber.
