Star Wars Rebels has quickly become an integral part of Star Wars canon, introducing a bevy of new characters and further developing the mythology to make the galaxy far, far away seem larger than it does in the feature films. Last year's explosive season finale "Twilight of the Apprentice" turned many heads, in large part due to the emotionally-charged conflicts that took place on Malachor. In particular, the duel between Kanan and Maul was a standout, leaving the Jedi Knight physically damaged beyond repair. With Maul set to return in this fall's season three, many are excited to see what happens next.
But before the two Force users meet again, the actors playing them - Sam Witwer and Freddie Prinze, Jr. - had a different kind of score to settle. As part of the buildup to the Rebels premiere, they took part in a special edition of Collider's Ultimate Movie Trivia Schmoedown show, putting their knowledge of film to the test. You can watch the full episode above.
We won't spoil the results for those who haven't seen it yet, but the match is highly entertaining. The most surprising turn comes in the second round, where the players spin a wheel to determine which category of questions they will answer. Coincidentally, both contestants land on Star Wars and the franchise Witwer and Prinze know so well factors heavily into their contest. Collider claims it wasn't planned that way, and the luck of the draw makes it so Rebels fans can have fun playing along. Part of the enjoyment of watching the Schmoedown is seeing how many queries you (as the viewer) know, and chances are this one features some of the "easier" questions for casual audiences.
Another entertaining nugget of entertainment comes at the very end, where Witwer and Prinze announce their intentions to team up and take on Collider's Ken Napzok and John Campea in a Star Wars themed episode of the Schmoedown, which has yet to be scheduled. Their characters may be bitter enemies, but Witwer and Prinze consider each other real life friends and didn't like being pitted against one another. It's all in good jest for now, but when the match is officially set up, the actors will be out looking for the win to prove they know more about Star Wars than anyone else in the league.
Until then, fans will have to make do with Kanan and Maul's head-to-head showdown, which is still a blast to see. The wait for the next batch of Rebels episodes is almost over, and this makes for an amusing prelude to all the thrilling adventures the Ghost crew will be going on over the next few months.
Star Wars Rebels season 3 premieres September 24, 2016 on Disney XD at 8:30 p.m. EST.
