A new piece of fan art imagines what a young Qui-Gon Jinn will look like in the upcoming Star Wars anthology series, Tales of the Jedi. Following its acquisition of Lucasfilm and the subsequent sequel trilogy, Disney has expanded on the Skywalker Saga by bringing back several animated and live-action Star Wars characters. The epicenter of this expansion is on Disney+ via shows like The Mandalorian, The Clone WarsRebels, The Bad Batch, The Book of Boba Fett, Visions, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and Ahsoka.

Much of this new era has been spearheaded by Lucasfilm’s executive creative director, Dave Filoni, who reportedly wrote another series while working on The Mandalorian. At Star Wars Celebration 2022, Filoni announced Tales of the Jedi, an animated anthology series centering on Ahsoka Tano, Count Dooku, and those in their orbit, such as Mace Windu and Qui-Gon Jinn. Liam Neeson will return to Star Wars to voice the latter Jedi alongside his son, who will voice a young Qui-Gon.

Guiillegfx and artwork_paradox on Instagram recently shared a collaboration imagining what a young Qui-Gon will look like in Tales of the Jedi. Interestingly, the piece is quite similar to the character model shown at Star Wars Celebration. The impressive art effectively de-ages Neeson to portray Qui-Gon pre-Star Wars prequels. It has been well over two decades since Neeson made his franchise debut as Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Master in The Phantom Menace. Despite the “Chosen One” decision, audiences have eagerly anticipated Neeson’s return to live-action as a Force ghost or otherwise. While that has yet to happen in Obi-Wan Kenobi or a Star Wars feature. Neeson himself has said that if he was going to make a live-action return to the galaxy far, far away, he would prefer this be in a film. That said, the actor has lent his voice to The Clone Wars and The Rise of Skywalker, and now he is set to do so again in Tales of the Jedi.

Along with the Tales of the Jedi announcement, story details and footage was screened at Star Wars Celebration. As the series focuses on Ahsoka, Count Dooku and more, each character will receive three episodes exploring different periods of their life. Given Qui-Gon’s altruism and popularity, it will certainly be interesting to see how this plays into Tales of the Jedi when it releases later this year on Disney+. In the meantime, this impressive new art helps to imagine how Star Wars may portray Neeson's long-awaited return in the animated series.
