Ever since The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm back in 2012, Star Wars has been firing on all cylinders. Between the constant flurry of new films is a slew of TV content, comics, novels, and video games to hold fans over.  It can become hard to keep track of every new Star Wars project — fortunately, though, we're here to help.

We've compiled a comprehensive list of as many upcoming Star Wars projects as we could handle, and even some rumors that might surprise you. This goes beyond the movies, as the list will include projects from every aspect of the brand. Are you a casual fan eager to hear about the next Episode film? We've got that covered. Are you a superfan looking to read up on the next big Star Wars comic? We've got that covered too.

Keep in mind that not all of these productions are confirmed for release. Obviously, rumors are just rumors, but even the "in-development" projects may not be all that strong in the Force. Star Wars has a history of projects getting cancelled, rewritten, and reshot, so who knows what could happen between the drawing board and the big screen. With that said, let's take a look at some of the projects we know are on the way, and some that might be right around the corner.

Here are 11 Star Wars Projects Currently In Development (And 9 Rumored).

IN DEVELOPMENT — Jon Favreau's Live-Action TV Series

Actor-director Jon Favreau has a history of involvement in the Star Wars franchise. He is the voice of Rio Durant in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and The Clone Wars fans likely remember him as voice of fan-favorite character Pre Vizsla. However, soon he'll be able to fully immerse himself in the universe as the writer and producer of his very own live-action TV series.

Like most of the upcoming Star Wars projects, Disney and Lucasfilm have been tight-lipped on the details. The show is still in the writing stages, and no production date has been set. Since Favreau is still working on next year's reboot of The Lion Kinghis series is probably a long way away. However, the director did reveal some very crucial information about its setting.

According to Favreau, his Star Wars series will take place seven years after Return of the Jedi — an era that the franchise has barely explored outside of the episodic films. There are some comics and novels that take place around the same time, but a live-action series set between the original and new trilogies has been unheard of thus far. It's a practically untouched playground to tell Star Wars stories in, and so hopefully the series gets started sooner rather than later.

RUMORED — A Lando Spin-Off Film

Millennium Falcon in Star Wars The Last Jedi with L3-37 and Lando

Solo: A Star Wars Story might have made an underwhelming impact at the box office, but the film has received universal praise for Donald Glover's performance as a young Lando Calrissian.

Lando is a character that remains enigmatic for most fans and a spin-off film about his adventures could prove to be a ton of fun.

Nothing has been confirmed by Lucasfilm, but studio president Kathleen Kennedy has expressed interest in a potential Lando anthology film. For whatever reason, the studio still seems set on telling more stories starring Han and Chewie, but Lando Calrissian seems like the next best bet. Donald Glover's smooth demeanor and comedic timing make Lando just as magnetic today as Billy Dee Williams made him in the original trilogy. His performance in Solo oozes leading-man potential, so why not give him his own movie?

Not only is the casting already perfect, but Lando's backstory has hardly been explored outside of the films. The Lando comic series is short and sweet, but it's a perfect example of how much potential there is in a feature-length Lando story. Where does he come from? How did he become a famous gambler? How does he come to own Cloud City? Why does he love capes so much?

IN DEVELOPMENT — Rian Johnson's New Trilogy

Rian Johnson and Rey

Rian Johnson has become a divisive figure among intense Star Wars fans. Depending on who you are, the visionary director has either made one of the most unique and visually-arresting blockbusters ever, or he's somehow completely ruined your favorite thing. Either way, Lucasfilm and critics alike love his work and he's getting an entire trilogy of movies all his own. As a matter of fact, production has already begun on the trilogy's early stages.

So far, next to nothing has been revealed about these films — Johnson didn't even have to pitch an actual story to get the greenlight from Disney and Lucasfilm, so they are probably still being workshopped. The only known details pertain to the story's setting. His trilogy is completely unrelated to the main episodes and is supposedly set in an unknown region of space, presumably with a new cast of characters. This should put outraged fans at ease and excite pretty much everybody else.

Lucasfilm has given Rian Johnson an unprecedented amount of creative freedom here. He now possesses a blank, vaguely-Star-Wars-themed canvas to paint on. This sounds like the perfect playground for a director now known for shaking up the status quo. The Rian Johnson trilogy is still years away, but it already sounds like something truly unique.

RUMORED — An Obi-Wan Spin-Off Film

Kenobi on the cover of his novel by John Jackson Miller

This is one of the most requested Star Wars projects by fans and long-rumored to be on its way. It's the perfect recipe for an anthology film and all of the pieces are already in place.

Lucasfilm wants to focus on existing characters? Obi-Wan is an existing character. Who could play Obi-Wan? Duh, Ewan McGregor. He's amazing at it and he wants to do it again. What could the movie be about? The mysterious 20 years of his life he spent living in the Tatooine desert. How will it be different from the other films? It could be a gritty western, a crime film, a thoughtful character study — just make Logan, but with Obi-Wan. It's that easy!

The biggest news regarding the project is that Stephen Daldry (Billy ElliotThe Crown) is reportedly set to direct. Other than that, very few details have surfaced and Lucasfilm hasn't even confirmed that it exists.

It's probably only a matter of time before this project is made official — but fans (And Ewan McGregor) will have to wait with bated breath until then.

Backlash to The Last Jedi was drastic enough, but making an Obi-Wan movie without Ewan McGregor? Now that sounds like a doomsday scenario.

IN DEVELOPMENT — Star Wars: Resistance Animated Series

The next Star Wars animated series is on its way, with the upcoming Star Wars: Resistance premiering this fall on Disney Channel. Headed by franchise veteran and animated series creator Dave Filoni, Resistance is the successor to Star Wars Rebels and will take place before The Force AwakensThe show will follow Kazuda Xiono, a pilot who becomes entangled in the brewing war as a Resistance spy.

Resistance is set during the early days of the titular rebel force as they combat the growing threat of the First Order. Dave Filoni has said that the show is inspired by WWII aircrafts and fighter pilots with an emphasis on high-speed action. It will also utilize an anime-inspired style — vastly different from the shows that have come before.

Resistance will feature an entirely new cast of characters and voice talent (Bobby Moynihan, Suzie McGrath, Christopher Sean, Donald Faison, and Josh Brener, to name a few), and even guest appearances by Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie as Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma. This has led many to believe that some other characters may return for the show as well, seeing as it takes place during the legacy characters' later years.

Luke, Han, and Leia cameos? A young Ben Solo, perhaps? With so much potential to bridge the gaps between the old and new films, fans should really get excited for this one.

RUMORED — A Star Wars Young Adult Romance Film

Star Wars Lost Stars cover

This rumor was first reported on by Star Wars News Net over a year ago, and it remains one of the more peculiar rumored projects on this list.

Reported alongside a slew of Lucasfilm's supposed future plans, a young adult romance film is apparently up for consideration behind-the-scenes. No details were mentioned aside from the basic premise: a spin-off film aimed at a younger audience that deals with romantic themes.

Older fans might scoff at the idea, but it actually sounds quite promising.

Claudia Gray's Lost Stars is a great example of how this concept can work well within the franchise. Lost Stars is a young adult Star Wars novel that tells the story of two lovers that find themselves on opposite ends of the Galactic Civil War. The book has been praised as some of the best material in the new Star Wars canon, despite what may sound like a cliché premise. It might not be every fan's ideal Star Wars story, but it could be a great way to target a new audience that would be uninterested in the brand otherwise.

Nothing about this rumor has been reported on since, and seeing as most of Lucasfilm's spin-off plans deal with iconic characters, this idea was probably dropped early on. Who knows, though — Solo's disappointing performance might motivate the studio to try something new. Romance has always been a part of Star Wars, so there's no reason why this couldn't work.

IN DEVELOPMENT — Galaxy's Edge

Disney Star Wars Land Galaxy's Edge

As if Star Wars fans didn't already have enough to look forward to, the first Star Wars theme park is nearing completion. Galaxy's Edge is set to open to the public in 2019 at Disney's Florida and California parks, and is gearing up to be one of the most immersive Star Wars experiences ever.

It's not just a theme park — it's an original planet that will supposedly fit into official canon.

Black Spire Outpost (on a planet called "Batuu") was designed from the ground up to be an authentic recreation of all things Star Wars. Like Disney's other parks, it will feature themed food, merchandise, and staff members acting in-character. Instead of Disney Princesses and Pixar favorites, though, the park will be full of Stormtroopers, aliens, droids, and life-sized replicas of vehicles like Tie Fighters and AT-ATs.

Black Spire Outpost's main attraction will be a movie-accurate and explorable replica of the Millennium Falcon, which also doubles as its own ride. The park will also introduce a new Resistance troop-transport vehicle, which will also be used as a fully-explorable ride.

Of course, much of the park's secrets are still under wraps but let's be real — everybody was pretty much sold at "Star Wars theme park", right?

RUMORED — A Darth Maul Spin-Off

Darth Maul dies in Phantom Menace

He lost his legs in The Phantom Menace, but he's been a busy guy ever since. Darth Maul has had a successful villainous career in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels — a twist only recently revealed to general audiences through his cameo in Solo: A Star Wars Story — but it might be time for him to step back into the spotlight.

Fans have waited a long time to see Maul in the films again, as he has become one of the most interesting characters in the franchise.

His time on the animated shows has evolved him from an evil Sith apprentice into a tragic anti-hero with potential for big-screen success. While rumors are scarce, Maul's name is frequently included in speculation for spin-off movies.

In all likelihood, a Darth Maul film probably won't happen. The animated shows have featured Maul quite a bit, and he has already perished at the hands of Obi-Wan in Star Wars Rebels. It almost feels too late.

With that said, arguments for a Maul film are quite compelling and Solo has all but confirmed his reappearance in the future. Whether he gets another cameo or a spin-off adventure of his own, most fans will probably be happy just to see him again.

RUMORED — An Ahsoka Tano Spin-Off Film

Ahsoka on Star Wars Rebels

It's not the first idea that comes to mind, but this has potential nonetheless. Ahsoka Tano has become the standout character in Star Wars television. She's had multiple seasons to grow and evolve on The Clone Wars, and became a mentor and scene-stealer on Star Wars Rebels. Could she be ready for her own spin-off movie?

Fan speculation has often included Ahsoka in pitches for future spin-offs, and maybe Lucasfilm may one day consider the idea. She's a unique protagonist in that she's a non-human female, and she's one of the only "good guys" to actively oppose the Jedi — aside from Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi.

Star Wars doesn't have that many morally ambiguous characters, and while Ahsoka is certainly a hero, she could be the key to a bit more moral complexity amidst franchise's constant battle of good versus evil.

Of course, if none of that thematic nonsense interests you, she could just serve as the lead in a cool spin-off film that doesn't star an A-list character like Han Solo. Back in 2017, Rosario Dawson admitted interest in playing the character in live-action — and frankly, she seems like a pretty good fit. Dave Filoni has already proven his talents directing the animated series. Why not give him a shot at directing his own Star Wars movie with one of his favorite characters in a leading role?

IN DEVELOPMENT — Weiss and Benioff Film Series

The guys behind the Game of Thrones TV series working on their very own Star Wars films? That alone probably gets fans excited for this project.

With a multi-film deal announced just after The Last Jedi's release, Lucasfilm seems eager to begin work with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The two have achieved great success in adapting A Song of Ice and Fire for HBO as Game of Thrones.

Not only can they handle a huge cast of characters with relative ease, but they know how to immerse viewers in a world rich with lore and mythology.

Why not just put them in a galaxy far, far away and make them do it again?

Like Rian Johnson's trilogy, the Benioff and Weiss series is probably a long way off — the two are still working on the final season of Game of Thrones anyway. The details are (you guessed it) pretty much nonexistent. The only insight anyone seems to have on the series is Game of Thrones and Solo star Emilia Clarke, who remarked that their work will be "Star Wars on acid," when it's all said and done.

It's unlikely that she has any exclusive information about the new film series, but who knows — their new movies (along with Rian Johnson's) could be the future of the franchise after the current trilogy runs its course.

 RUMORED — A Yoda Spin-Off Film

Yoda Wields a Lightsaber in Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones

Lucasfilm seems so concerned with bringing back established characters that it seems like a miracle Rogue One even made it to theaters. Between those Han Solo, Obi-Wan, and Boba Fett films, Lucasfilm briefly considered a spinoff about Yoda — and for all anyone knows, the idea is still on the table.

While it's not the spin-off fans are clamoring for, a standalone story about Yoda does have tons of potential. Yoda is over 900 years old. That's plenty of room to play around with. A prequel about how he becomes a Jedi? Sure. A movie about what he did in the swamp on Dagobah all those years? It's possible. Heck, you could even make a movie about a young Yoda living on whatever home planet he comes from. There is so much we don't know about him that this project could go in pretty much any direction you can think of.

It's one of the only established character spin-offs that seemingly hasn't made any progress, even in regards to basic development rumors. In all likelihood, Lucasfilm has probably shelved the idea until further notice — perhaps only to prioritize other films. Solo's theatrical run may make or break the studio's plans of character spin-offs, so all we can do is wait and see if the Yoda film rears its little green ears in the future.

IN DEVELOPMENT — Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Video Game

Star Wars has been pretty absent in the video game scene lately. Other than a handful of smartphone releases and the much-maligned Star Wars Battlefront II, the franchise hasn't had a strong foothold in the industry. Disney hasn't helped matters either — when it relaunched the brand, it canceled several Star Wars games mid-development, including a Darth Maul action game, and Star Wars 1313.

Fortunately, some video game projects are underway. Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind the Titanfall games, is developing its own Star Wars adventure. Naturally, the details are still hush-hush —  the currently untitled project is a third-person action game that will be headed up by God of War III director Stig Asmussen. EA revealed back in 2016 that the game will utilize motion-capture actors for lightsaber battles, which has led many to speculate that the game will be heavy on Jedi combat.

While the project sounds quite promising, nothing concrete has come out about it in quite some time, with some sources reporting that it won't even be ready until 2020. It's disheartening for sure, but at least another game is on the way. Expect some tidbits of news to drop between now and then, but the game sounds like it has a long way to go before it's ready to hit store shelves.

RUMORED — Future Updates To Battlefront II

Star Wars Battlefront II EA Rey Inferno Squad Darth Maul

Calling Star Wars Battlefront II controversial would be an understatement. Backlash to the game's microtransaction system garnered tons of negative press at launch. The game has overhauled its own internal economy several times now, and the promise of timely updates and new content seems less and less believable.

While the game did get a huge update after the release of The Last Jedi, additional content seems to have slowed down quite a bit since then. Recently the game was updated with recycled content for the release of Solo, with the only new additions being some character costumes — which isn't very reassuring. The game's future is up in the air, and because of that, we have two rumors for this entry: good news and bad news.

The good news is that new content is apparently on the way for real this time.

Rumors indicate that the next "season" of downloadable content will be based on Revenge of the Sith.

Placeholder files for General Grievous have been found within the game, leading many to believe that the character will debut alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi for some prequel-related battles.

The bad news? Rumors also suggest that publisher Electronic Arts is preparing to slowly end support for the game and abandon ship. Allegedly, the backlash and associated financial toll has made EA lose interest in the product.

We'd like to emphasize the fact that these are only rumors, and apologize if you're one of those "bad-news-first" types.

IN DEVELOPMENT — Star Wars: Tobias Beckett

Marvel publishes several Star Wars books at any given time, and over the last few years they've tried putting a number of different characters in leading roles. Leia, Han, Lando, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Captain Phasma, and Poe Dameron are only a handful of characters that have starred in their own comics — and some are still going strong. Soon to join their ranks is Woody Harrelson's character from Solo: A Star Wars Story, Tobias Beckett.

Han's brief mentor-in-crime is getting his own comic with the release Star Wars: Beckett. The book will deal with Beckett's backstory, taking place before the events of Solo and exploring his relationship with criminal rival Enfys Nest. Star Wars: Beckett is only a one-shot (as opposed to being an ongoing series) but it seems to have lots of Marvel talent behind it. The comic will be illustrated by Marc Laming, Will Sliney, and Edgar Salazar, and will be written by Marvel veteran Gerry Duggan.

Solo hints that Beckett and Enfys have a history, and that Enfys has an especially nasty reputation despite only being a teen. What could she have done to be so feared? Why do they hate each other so much? Is there more to their relationship? Anyone looking for answers should head to a comic store on August 15th to find out.

IN DEVELOPMENT — EA Vancouver's Star Wars Game

Back on the video game front, Electronic Arts has yet another Star Wars title in the works. EA Vancouver is developing an open-world Star Wars action game. This comes after Star Wars project under Visceral Games (Dead Space, Battlefield: Hardline) was canceled after EA unceremoniously shut the studio down in 2017.

The game was codenamed "Ragtag" and would be a story-driven action game helmed by Uncharted 2 director Amy Hennig.

Reports indicate that the EA Vancouver team is rebooting the Ragtag project, with some newly implemented features. Instead of the story-driven, linear action game it started out as, EA Vancouver has apparently redesigned much of it for a focus on online multiplayer features and gameplay.

Electronic Arts' handling of the Star Wars license has been disappointing at best and insulting at worst, as fans may not be keen on more multiplayer Star Wars games after the Battlefront II debacle.

Considering this was originally a swashbuckling single-player adventure, the online features might only be an optional aspect of the overall game — like a competitive multiplayer mode.

Many gamers are still itching for a story-driven game in the new Star Wars canon, so hopefully this rebooted project retains much of its initial promises alongside its new online features.

RUMORED — A Knights Of The Old Republic Adaptation

Serious fans have been begging for this for ages. The classic video game series is a fan-favorite story that takes place thousands of years before the movies, and when Disney acquired Lucasfilm, it was no longer considered official canon. The story's significance been hinted at several times since, but is it time for Knights of the Old Republic to finally be brought back into the fold?

Not only is it in high demand among fans, but many believe an adaptation KotOR is already underway. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the creators of HBO's Game of Thrones, are already tapped for a film series within the Star Wars universe. Think about it — a fantastical story about warring factions, political intrigue, and eccentric heroes and villains all fighting to rule the galaxy? Doesn't that sound like suspiciously apt story for a pair of Game of Thrones writers to adapt?

Nothing has been confirmed by Lucasfilm, but it certainly feels like KotOR is on its way back into the spotlight. Even The Last Jedi hid a clever Easter egg referencing fan-favorite Old Republic character Darth Revan.

Benioff and Weiss might very well be making a completely original Star Wars story, but if they end up tackling the Old Republic, then fans are in for a treat.

IN DEVELOPMENT — Thrawn: Alliances

Thrawn and Darth Vader in Star Wars

Perhaps you're tired of movies and games, but still want to brush up on a little Star Wars. The sequel to Timothy Zahn's Thrawn novel is on the way, with the series itself being a spiritual successor to the original Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy from the 1990s — also written by Zahn. The book is called Thrawn: Alliances and is going to hit store shelves on July 24th, 2018.

Thrawn: Alliances sees the titular Imperial officer form an uneasy partnership with Darth Vader to confront a new threat to the Galactic Empire.

The book is set during the events of the Star Wars Rebels animated series, in which Thrawn briefly acted as an antagonist. His arc in Rebels ends on a cliffhanger (most likely going to pay off in the next animated series, Resistance), so fans of the eccentric villain may only have this prequel novel to hold them over in the meantime.

Fans who missed out on the first Thrawn book have a few weeks to catch up, but non-book readers have an alternative if they wish to do the same. The original novel is being adapted by Marvel Comics as a five-issue limited series, written by Jody Houser with art by Luke Ross. The series is set to wrap up before Thrawn: Alliances releases, so comic fans can join in on the fun too.

RUMORED — A Darth Vader Spin-Off Film

Darth Vader Final Scene from Rogue One A Star Wars Story

Exploring more of Darth Vader's personal life and conflicted soul is a bit of a double-edged sword. Fans want to see the character at his best, which might as well be code for his "most sinister" self.

The last time the franchise dove deep into Darth Vader's psyche was in the prequel films, and we all know how those turned out. Since then, though, Vader has made a number of compelling appearances that suggest he may deserve a spin-off film of his own.

Fans may not want to be reminded of the "sympathetic" (or whiny) Anakin Skywalker, but a convincing argument can be made for a standalone Vader story. For one thing, a Vader-led story has already been proven successful: the Darth Vader comics are easily some of the best stories in the new canon. Writers like Kieron Gillen and Charles Soule manage to balance the man struggling inside the suit with the terrifying villain we know and love.

Not only does it make perfect sense from a financial standpoint — because who wouldn't go see a movie with the most popular villain ever plastered all over it — but Rogue One has shown that Vader can still be scary even after all these years.

Lucasfilm hasn't mentioned anything about a Darth Vader project, but most of their plans involve characters with built-in fanbases. If a Vader movie had been in the cards all along, nobody would be very surprised.

IN DEVELOPMENT — A Boba Fett Film

Star Wars Boba Fett spinoff director rumors

Well, it looks like this project has been pulled out of the Sarlacc Pit to see the light of day again.

Boba Fett movie was of one Lucasfilm's earliest spin-off plans. While it was never formally announced, it seemed destined for theaters alongside the likes of Rogue One and Solo. Many believe that it was nearly made official — it very well might have been Josh Trank's canceled Star Wars spin-off film, from which he was removed as director after his handling of Fantastic Four 2015.

In any case, the project is officially back on the slate with some fresh talent behind-the-scenes.

Logan director James Mangold is set to helm the project, and the script will be penned by X-Men producer Simon Kinberg.

While fan anticipation for a Boba Fett film might be mixed at best, the project seems to be in perfect hands. Not only was Logan a massive success, but a Boba Fett spin-off could easily feature similar western and noir tones. It could also explore more of the ever-expanding world of galactic crime.

Could Boba Fett follow up Solo with even grittier western-crime action? Mangold and Kinberg sound like they'll fit right at home with this particular Star Wars project.

IN DEVELOPMENT — Episode IX

Did you think we would forget Episode IX? J.J. Abrams is returning to direct the final installment of the new Star Wars trilogy, set for release on December 20th, 2019.

Of course, the big conclusion is one of the most secretive productions in Lucasfilm's schedule. The project's first working title was "Black Diamond" for a while, until it was recently reported that the production changed it to "trIXie." Very little explanation exists as to why they decided on the name change other than that it stems from the name "Beatrice", meaning "bringer of joy."

Other than that, the only major news about the project comes in a recent unverified plot leak. We won't get into too much detail about it here, as it is very lengthy and convoluted. The unconfirmed plot involves a time jump, the Knights of Ren, a coup by General Hux, a romance between Rey and Kylo Ren, and a whole lot more. Take all of this information with a grain of salt, as Disney and Lucasfilm are known for playing their cards as close to the chest as possible. It's probably all false, but hey — you never know!

It's likely that we won't know much about Episode IX until the very first teaser trailer, and even then, there will probably be tons to endlessly speculate about. Until then, though, there's plenty of Star Wars content to go around  — clearly.
