Star Wars: 10 Princess Leia Quotes That Inspired Us All

Since 1977, Princess Leia has been an icon for fans everywhere. The headstrong Princess of Alderaan was the first of many female characters to come who proved that women can be more than just the damsel in distress. And while Leia Organa started off that way in Star Wars: A New Hope when she is imprisoned, audiences quickly realized Leia is a force to be reckoned with.

Leia possessed razor wit and bold determination. The late Carrie Fisher contributed to the character with an equal balance of poise and dominance that made women want to be her. 10 “Aren’t you a little short for a Stormtrooper?”

Talk about sass. Leia was a feisty heroine who was never one to bite her tongue. When Luke Skywalker and Han Solo disguise themselves as Stormtroopers to save the princess, Leia makes this comment toward Luke before he reveals his true intentions.

Her spite towards the guard who was keeping her imprisoned is petty and savage and audiences loved it.

9 "I know. Somehow, I’ve always known."

In one of the most shocking moments in cinematic history, Luke reveals to Leia that she is his sister and the daughter of Darth Vader. However, Leia had somehow known this detail all along (maybe she had this epiphany when she kissed her own brother).

This scene is a sweet and tender moment between the two, and despite their brief history, Leia reacts to the news with dignity and care. It’s incredible to witness a character who is frequently so audacious composing herself with such grace.

8 "I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board.”

One of Leia’s most prized qualities is her unencumbered spirit. In Star Was IV, Leia makes this bold statement towards Governor Tarkin. Despite being captured, she remains courageous and even a bit brazen.

She remains unintimidated, which just goes to show what a fierce fighter she is. She even has the nerve to say, “I should’ve expected to find you holding Vader’s leash.”

7 "There’s still light in him. I know it."

Any line that Carrie Fisher has spoken as Leia Organa has always come out resolute and strong. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Leia has this conversation with Han Solo about their son, Kylo Ren. Kylo has already made headway on his path to the Dark Side, but Leia begs to differ.

Han thinks that they have lost their son forever, but Leia urges him to see the light in him. When she says this, she says it with such deep assertion that it’s almost impossible to argue against her. Han does try to reconcile with Kylo, but, of course, we all know how that ends.

6 "Get your head out of your cockpit."

Fisher delivers Leia’s lines with such sass and attitude that she just owns every scene she's in. This demeanor is unrelenting and she carries it all the way to her appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

After Poe disobeyed orders to end the attack on the First Order’s massive Dreadnought starship, General Leia puts him in his place with this epic quote. Not only does she demote Poe, but she also gives him a well-deserved slap in the face.

5 “Will someone get this big walking carpet out of my way?"

Leia has a tendency to say what everyone else is thinking. She says it with such ferocity that it is certainly intimidating. Although her intentions are always good, others need to learn to get out of the way once this woman sets her mind on something.

The Rebellion learns this when Leia directs this comment to the loveable (but big and ungainly) Chewbacca when he inadvertently got in her way.

4 “Someone who loves you."

During Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, the roles are reversed and Leia comes to Han Solo’s rescue. After being blinded by hibernation sickness from his incarceration at the palace of Jabba the Hutt, Han is terrified when someone enters the room.

When he asks who it is, Leia responds with the perfect, heart-warming answer: “someone who loves you.”

3 “I hope you know what you’re doing.”

Leia is someone who always seems to know what she’s doing. She has that unwavering air of confidence that is truly inspiring. Leia and Han Solo’s constant love-hate relationship always has them at odds with each other.

After the Battle of Hoth, the Millennium Falcon is damaged and Han has to quickly land and repair it. He decides to do this by hiding in a crater. That’s when Leia says this to Han, as he flies into a cave. He simply responds, “yeah, me too.” Of course, the cave turned out to be a giant space worm, so maybe Han should have let Leia lead after all.

2 “No matter how much we fought, I’ve always hated watching you leave.”

This poignant moment between Leia and Han in Star Wars: The Force Awakens just pulls at the heartstrings. Both of them being stubborn and headstrong characters made their relationship difficult to sustain.

Throughout Star Wars’ elongated saga, Leia and Han have constantly bickered back and forth, although these fights were always sort of endearing. Judging by this quote, it’s obvious that the chemistry between these two never died.

1 “May the Force be with you."

Leia has proven herself time and time again with not only her witty comebacks but her strong ethics and tenacity. From a princess to the leader of The Rebellion, Leia has been an icon both on and off the screen. Sadly, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the last time Carrie Fisher was able to play the role of General Leia, due to her untimely death in 2016.

Thankfully, fans were able to see Leia reunite with her brother and give some parting words. To Rey, the newest leader of the Rebellion, she offers the most familiar quote in Star Wars history, “May the force be with you.”
