Fan reception to George Lucas’ Star Wars prequel trilogy has warmed up in the last couple of years as the kids who grew up with the prequels are now adults who remember them fondly and the cynical edge of fans who were kids when the original trilogy came out and adults when the prequels came out has been softened.

Plus, with a mixed response to the sequel trilogy and its handling of Star Wars mythology, the prequels are starting to look a lot better, simply by having Lucas’ encyclopedic knowledge of the Star Wars universe behind them. So, here is the Star Wars Prequels Gift Guide.

Vandor Star Wars R2-D2 20 Ounce Ceramic Sculpted Mug (99401)

Until Solo: A Star Wars Story came along and messed things up, R2-D2 and C-3PO had been the connecting glue that held the whole Star Wars franchise together. They were the only characters to have appeared in every movie, even having a cameo in Rogue One.

They’ve still been in every chapter of the core Skywalker saga, which is concluding this December with the grand finale, The Rise of Skywalker. Artoo, in particular, had a significant role in the prequel trilogy since he went on Anakin and Obi-Wan’s missions with them. And now, he can be bought in the form of an awesome mug.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

It’s widely accepted that Revenge of the Sith is the best prequel movie, and that’s reflected in John Williams’ incredible musical score for the film. While The Phantom Menace’s “Duel of the Fates” might be the most memorable single piece of music in the prequel trilogy, Revenge of the Sith arguably has the best soundtrack.

“Battle of the Heroes,” the track used to score the emotionally charged Mustafar sequence, has just as much punch as “Duel of the Fates.” In fact, when telling Williams what he wanted for the “Battle of the Heroes” track, George Lucas described it as a “tragedy ‘Duel of the Fates’” that would see out the trilogy in suitably epic fashion.

The fictional universe and underlying mythology of the Star Wars saga is so far-reaching and so complex that it couldn’t possibly all be explained within the movies. So, we strap in and go along for the ride with the movies, taking in all the spectacular space sequences and gorgeously rendered planets and bizarre alien species as we follow the exciting plot.

But after the movie is over, you might want to know more about all those things – their names, their backstories, the fictional science behind them etc. That’s where this reference guide to everything in The Phantom Menace comes in handy.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Mace Windu Electronic Lightsaber

When George Lucas was courting Samuel L. Jackson to play Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Jackson said he would do it as long as his character’s lightsaber was a unique color – a color that no one else’s lightsaber was or ever would be.

In a way, Jackson’s conditions have been betrayed, because now, you can wield a lightsaber that’s the same color as his character’s one, but it is attributed to his character. This toy version of Windu’s lightsaber has the authentic light and sound effects from the movie and even has the same handle design as the one held by Jackson in the movies.

LeRage Shirts I Have The High Ground T-Shirt Fan Made Star Wars Shirt Men’s

“I have the high ground” is one of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s most iconic quotes. It has two meanings: 1) he is literally standing on higher ground than Anakin and therefore in a more advantageous position for combat, and 2) he’s on the higher moral ground because he hasn’t fallen to the Dark Side or murdered any children.

Another great thing about having this line on a t-shirt is that it’ll remind any Star Wars fan of Obi-Wan and Anakin’s intense, theatrical, operatic lightsaber battle on the lava planet Mustafar, which is one of the greatest scenes in the history of the saga.

LEGO Star Wars 75112 General Grievous Building Kit

The Star Wars prequel trilogy introduced audiences to a number of cool new villains who are now fan favorites: Darth Maul, Count Dooku, and of course, General Grievous.

Reportedly, Matthew Wood, who was already working on the Star Wars prequels as a sound designer, submitted his own audition anonymously for the role of Grievous and he ended up getting it. Grievous only appeared in a couple of scenes in Revenge of the Sith, but thanks to his strange anatomy and stolen Jedi lightsabers, that was enough to etch him into fans’ memories. This impressive Lego figure stands more than 11” tall.

Star Wars: Darth Maul

Whatever fans thought of The Phantom Menace when it was first released, there were very few of them arguing that Darth Maul was awesome. His double-bladed lightsaber and red-and-black facial tattoos and horns all combined to make a villain that was unique, ominous, terrifying, and unforgettable.

But the movie only scratched the surface of the Darth Maul story. In this comic book prequel, Darth Maul’s apprenticeship under Darth Sidious is explored as the infamous Sith Lord prepares himself for his first encounter with the Jedi. This Marvel comic is written by Cullen Bunn, who has penned stories for such characters as Deadpool, Captain America, Venom, and the X-Men.

Star Wars Yoda 16 Ounce Steel Travel Mug

In the original trilogy, Yoda trained Luke in The Empire Strikes Back and then died and became a Force ghost in Return of the Jedi. But there were 900 years of his life that those movies didn’t cover.

The prequels covered part of those years, as he trained the younglings and headed the Jedi Order and also got in on some of the action, like dueling with Count Dooku and unleashing the Clone Army on the Separatists on Geonosis. This stainless steel travel mug bearing the image of a lightsaber-wielding Yoda is the perfect gift for any fan of the Star Wars saga.

A lot of fans’ favorite part of the prequel trilogy was Ewan McGregor’s portrayal of a young Obi-Wan Kenobi. He didn’t just do an Alec Guinness impression – he really made the role his own. As a result, fans have been clamoring for McGregor’s Obi-Wan to get a solo movie set between the two trilogies for years.

The actor is eager to return to the role, but the people at Disney are still ironing out their Star Wars strategy. So, in the meantime, this Funko Pop figure offers us the quintessential Obi-Wan look from the Clone Wars era of the story.

Star Wars: Trilogy – Episodes I-III

No Star Wars fan’s collection is complete without a Blu-ray box set of the prequel trilogy. Blu-ray is by far the best format to watch movies at home, bringing out the vibrant colors and crisp image quality of a movie theater screen right on your own TV.

It’s the best way to watch Obi-Wan and Anakin battle it out on Mustafar or Yoda bringing the full force of the Clone Army to get the Jedi out of a pickle on Geonosis or the tragic final scene in which Luke and Leia are taken into hiding and Darth Vader is masked, completing Anakin’s journey to the Dark Side – in high-def.
