Long-running MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic is testing out some all-new combat styles, as well as letting players give feedback on how to make character customization easier. Developed by BioWare of Knights Of The Old Republic fame, Star Wars: The Old Republic allows players to explore the Galaxy Far, Far, Away as a member of either the Jedi-allied Galactic Republic or the evil Sith Empire in a story set roughly a thousand years before the events of the films.

As with most popular MMO games, one of the main draws of Star Wars: The Old Republic is that players can create their own Jedi Knight, Sith Lord, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, or Stormtrooper and take on other players with unique fighting styles, just like the Force users and blaster-wielders from the movies. However, some Star Wars: The Old Republic systems playstyles can be complicated and require a great deal of memorization to fully understand, muddying character builds and making things difficult for some newcomers. BioWare seems to be looking into this problem and is asking players to give feedback as it expands The Old Republic’s repertoire of different combat styles.

A BioWare update on Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Steam page announces that it's adding four new combat styles to the game’s Public Test Server - Mercenary, Powertech, Juggernaut, and Marauder. BioWare state that the goal is to study how players use these new playstyles to identify key takeaways and “understand how players both perceive and utilize the classes’ abilities.” The developer also notes that it wishes to “equip the player with knowledge and understanding of these abilities so they can make impactful choices when it comes to ability upgrades and customizations.”

New combat styles aren't the only fresh content coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic this year, as a new Star Wars: The Old Republic expansion titled Legacy of the Sith is set to bring new story missions, pitting players against Darth Malgus as he tries to uncover a shadowy secret on the planet Manaan. Meanwhile, players will be returning to the storyline that started the Old Republic era with the long-awaited Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake, though this is being made without original developer BioWare’s involvement.

Even a full decade after it first launched back in 2011, BioWare also still regularly seasonal content to Star Wars: The Old Republic and listening to player feedback in order to improve on certain areas of combat and gameplay. Players can take the brand-new Mercenary, Powertech, Juggernaut, and Marauder combat styles for a test flight by logging onto Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Public Test Server.
