Lucasfilm may still be planning to film Obi-Wan in 2019. Under the guidance of Disney, Lucasfilm expanded the reaches of Star Wars to go beyond just the saga films. They've told the story of stealing the Death Star plans in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and how Han Solo got his name in Solo: A Star Wars Story. But, the one anthology almost all fans want to see is a standalone movie featuring Ewan McGregor starring as Obi-Wan Kenobi once more.

McGregor survived the backlash of the prequels and remains a fan-favorite, which may be why rumors of this project happening have persisted. However, this anthology film has been caught in the crossfires of the uncertainty surrounding all Star Wars spinoffs. All of these projects were reportedly put on hold and it has made Obi-Wan's future unclear despite multiple signs it was gearing up for production.

That may still indeed be the plan after all. Belfast Telegraph reports that Obi-Wan will film in the city next April. The news comes as the outlet reported the Game of Thrones spinoff will film there in October once the area is freed up. Based on the production schedule, Obi-Wan is still slated to begin production there early next year.

This is not the first time reports have linked Obi-Wan to filming in Belfast early next year either. Prior to all the standalone rumors that came following Solo's disappointing performance, a report pointed to production beginning in 2019. In the time since, though, there's been plenty of additional developments that put Obi-Wan's status into question. While at one time Stephen Daldry was in talks to direct, reports have surfaced that he passed on the project due to scheduling.

Even though Obi-Wan has been in the news a lot, it is important to remember that Lucasfilm has never officially announced the project. Unlike the press releases for Rian Johnson's trilogy or the Benioff & Weiss series, there's yet to be official confirmation on anything regarding Obi-Wan. That doesn't mean the movie isn't happening as this report would lead one to believe, but rather that there's still plenty of steps that need to be taken first. The movie needs to find a director and writer soon if they want to start production in less than a year. Thankfully, McGregor's schedule is clear to do the film once he completes Doctor Sleep.

If Lucasfilm plans to keep releasing a Star Wars movie every single year, then Obi-Wan is the best option out there. James Mangold's reported - but unconfirmed - Boba Fett is still a few years away as he's working on another movie currently. Johnson is just beginning to work on his trilogy, while Benioff and Weiss won't start work until Game of Thrones' final season is complete. Its safe to say that, once again, Obi-Wan is the only hope.
