A Star Wars fan imagines what the poster might look like for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff film. Reports persist that an Obi-Wan standalone will come in the near future, with production perhaps starting as early as 2019. Director Stephen Daldry has previously been named in conjunction with the reported Obi-Wan project. The film's reported working title "Joshua Tree" hints at Tatooine as the story's location.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi who trained Anakin Skywalker and later his son Luke, is one of several original trilogy characters mentioned in spinoff speculation. Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett have also been named as old school characters who could see new life in standalones. Still another favorite to get a spinoff, at least among some fans, is Yoda the ancient Jedi Master.

With an Obi-Wan spinoff looking like at least a good possibility, a Reddit user named Rikard_ has crafted a gorgeous poster for the imagined movie. Check out the poster below:

Rikard_ definitely believes the Obi-Wan movie will take place on Tatooine, having worked the desert planet's soaring sand dunes and iconic twin suns into his design. Perched atop the dune is the tiny figure of Obi-Wan, laden with all sorts of equipment. Zooming in, we see an Obi-Wan who looks like a decent cross between Ewan McGregor and a young Alec Guinness. Guinness of course originated the character in Star Wars, while McGregor took on the role for the three prequels.

As regards possible casting for Obi-Wan, McGregor has expressed interest in returning to reprise his role from the prequels. The most likely storyline would involve Obi-Wan's activities on Tatooine between the prequels and A New Hope. A recent fan-made trailer imagined what Obi-Wan's life might have been like on the desert planet after going into exile in the wake of Anakin's turn to the Dark Side.

Though reports continue to circulate about spinoff plans, much remains uncertain about the future of Star Wars. Things may come more into focus after next year's release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, the second of Disney's standalones. The first standalone, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, blew up the box office in 2016. But even if Solo follows Rogue One by making tons of money, that doesn't guarantee a steady stream of spinoffs. In fact, some believe the move to give Rian Johnson his own trilogy signals Disney's desire to roll back the standalone plan. Fans will no doubt have many strong, differing opinions about what Disney should do. And what directors should (and should not) have a hand in the future of Star Wars.
