The new trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi revealed that the upcoming streaming series will have plenty of connections to the Star Wars canon, including previous movies, animated series, and video games. There is also potential for the series to delve into the expanded universe of franchise lore that is now classified as Legends, referencing characters and stories fans old and new would enjoy.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has a rich tradition in Star Wars lore going back to the earliest days of Marvel Comics, and much of his backstory and early adventures in comics, books, and elsewhere are no longer canon. But there are ways for the upcoming series to reference or even canonize some of them in the same way that other recent canon animated and live-action series have.

Siri Tachi

Fans of some of the best episodes of the Clone Wars animated series know Satine Kryze is Obi-Wan Kenobi's main love interest in canon, but in Legends, he had another. Siri Tachi was a fellow Jedi Knight Obi-Wan fell in love with in his early days with the Order.

Some reference to Siri Tachi would be great to see in the upcoming series, especially as Obi-Wan seems to feel defeated. Part of the burden he carries could be the legacy of Siri, who died while on a mission with Obi-Wan during the Clone Wars.

Obi-Wan's Brother

Joel Edgerton as Uncle Owen in Obi-wan Kenobi.

The novelization of Return of the Jedi in 1983 revealed that Owen Lars was Obi-Wan's brother, explaining why Luke ended up where he did. The prequel trilogy changed this, but there is still a chance to reference this unusual wrinkle in Obi-Wan's Legends history.

A canon story explained away the discrepancy by having Obi-Wan be confused about his real brother, also named Owen, in a vision. With six episodes to explore Obi-Wan, this Owen could be referenced or perhaps even appear in the series.

Durge

Comic book fans know that Doctor Aphra recently made Durge canon, but the Obi-Wan Kenobi series can go a step farther in canonizing the legendary battle between the Jedi Master and cyborg bounty hunter during the Clone Wars.

The two squared off in one of the best battles of the 2-D 2003 Clone Wars animated series by Genndy Tartakovsky, an unforgettable duel Obi-Wan could reference during the upcoming live-action series.

The Tusken Raiders

The first thing Obi-Wan Kenobi does on screen in Star Wars is frighten off Tusken Raiders with a Krayt dragon scream. Much of his relationship with the Tatooine natives is explored in Legends, particularly in a short story from 2006.

"The Last One Standing" by Jude Watson shows Obi-Wan protecting the Lars homestead from Tuskens and eventually coming to an understanding with them in a way that isn't unlike their recent in-depth depiction in The Book of Boba Fett.

Trying To Train Luke

Luke Skywalker plays on the Lars Homestead in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

One of the biggest subjects of Legends Obi-Wan Kenobi stories is his relationship with Luke Skywalker. One of the most interesting that could play a direct role in the series is Adventures In Beggar's Canyon, a children's book from 1998.

In the story, Obi-Wan and Owen Lars argue over Obi-Wan's attempt to give Luke Anakin's old lightsaber. Owen forbid it, fearing Luke would meet the same fate as his father. This could occur in the series, as Owen was antagonistic toward Kenobi in the original trilogy.

Outbound Flight

An intriguing chapter of Legends history that could come into play involves Outbound Flight. During his exile on Tatooine, Obi-Wan investigated this ancient Jedi exploratory mission, which potentially had numerous survivors to help fight the Empire.

He could also reference this in the series, especially as Grand Admiral Thrawn was associated with the project as well. Grand Admiral Thrawn is already a Star Wars Legends character who has become canon and is likely to be a major aspect of the upcoming Ahsoka Tano series.

Merson Pirates

Obi-Wan Kenobi is leaving Tatooine in the series and will likely require a cover as he does. That could be an opportunity to reference one of his earliest and most interesting comic book adventures when he fought the Merson Pirates in Star Wars #24.

This flashback imagined Obi-Wan as a Jedi in his prime, but the Merson Pirates could show up in the series either in a cameo or a reference as the Jedi Master travels to new worlds like Daiyu, seen in the new trailer for the series.

Lost City Of The Jedi

Another intriguing element of Legends that could be referenced in the series is the Lost City of the Jedi, from the 1992 junior novel of the same name. In this story, the spirit of Obi-Wan tells Luke about the ancient lost city hidden on Yavin 4.

Like Outbound Flight, it's a tantalizing idea that has some potential in the expanding streaming universe, especially since the concept would eventually be linked back to some of the best Jedi of the Old Republic era like Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider.

Fighting A'Sharad Hett

Another element of Obi-Wan's experience with the Tuskens on Tatooine in Legends involves A'Sharad Hett. In one of the best Star Wars comic book arcs from the early 2000s, Obi-Wan duels A'Sharad Hett, the son of a Jedi exile who lived among the Tuskens after the rise of the Empire.

This storyline, which was related in Star Wars Legacy #16, could very easily be adapted into live-action given the focus on the Tuskens and the connection to Obi-Wan. Hett, who would become Darth Krayt, could emerge as a compelling villain in the future.

Jaxxon

Though Obi-Wan Kenobi has no real connection to Jaxxon, the green space rabbit from the classic Marvel Comics, Legends fans would nevertheless love to see the character in live-action. With Obi-Wan leaving Tatooine, there is at least a possibility.

Jaxxon is one of the more idiosyncratic elements of early Star Wars comics, but he's remained a fan favorite and has appeared both in recent comics as well as a Hasbro action figure. Like Black Krrsantan, he could join live-action in a fun and unexpected way.
