Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi is rumored to be bringing back Bail Organa, and the character's return after the Star Wars prequels could hold the reason for Obi-Wan leaving Tatooine in the show. One of the major hurdles faced by Obi-Wan Kenobi is its Tatooine setting. Although there's plenty of wiggle room in Star Wars canon for new stories set there involving Kenobi, the fact he's on the desert planet and living as a hermit makes the options for thrilling tales on the desert planet somewhat more limited. Added to that, after The Book of Boba Fett in particular, there's a desire to see less, not more, of Tatooine, further necessitating the show to leave the planet behind, at least for a spell.

Luckily, there's reason to believe Obi-Wan will be leaving Tatooine behind. Besides Ewan McGregor as the eponymous Jedi, the most notable character in Obi-Wan Kenobi is Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen), with the promise of a rematch between the pair. Assuming Vader isn't paying a surprising return to the homeworld he hated so much, then the logical conclusion is Obi-Wan makes a surprising departure from his life in exile (and watching over Luke Skywalker) that results in a confrontation with his former friend.

Given how important Obi-Wan's role in helping to protect Luke is, then it'd need to be something crucial for him to leave his post. With reports of Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) in Obi-Wan Kenobi, that could provide the reason for it, since he's heavily involved in the fledgling Rebel Alliance and has a strong relationship with Obi-Wan already. If Bail is returning, and he would fit well into this story and its timeline, then it's likely he recruits Obi-Wan for a key mission that requires a Jedi, which could perhaps involve Leia Organa, the Rebels, or the increasing threat of the dark side, since Darth Vader's Inquisitors are also believed to play a significant role in the show.

Senator Bail Organa in Star Wars

Star Wars canon has plenty of gaps in Bail's story during Obi-Wan's time period (which takes place 10 years after Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith), but it is known that he was active among various rebel cells that were operating in the galaxy. Similarly, he'd worked with Ahsoka Tano prior to this, so knows the value of a Force user, and their relationship even included him passing on information about an Inquisitor, the Sixth Brother, to her. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Bail references a Jedi to call upon for help, which is none other than Kenobi himself. That's still a long way off Obi-Wan Kenobi's timeline, but it does show they have the kind of relationship where Bail will ask him for help.

Although it remains to be confirmed if Bail is in Obi-Wan Kenobi, his presence would make a lot of sense, and provide another connecting link between the prequels and the originals, which fits with the show's setting right in the midpoint of those. Bail wouldn't need to have a major role in the series, but his relationship with Obi-Wan is such that he's one of the few feasible options to contact Kenobi during his exile on Tatooine, and to whom Obi-Wan would have enough loyalty to leave. From there, the story can go in much bigger directions to set up Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader, but Bail and the rebel cells could be the spark that ignites it.
