With its release date just over a month away, marketing for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is heating up with new merchandise, posters, and TV spots to keep eager fans warm. As the first non-numbered, non-Skywalker focused spinoff of the Star Wars series, a lot is riding on Rogue One's performance. While it's unlikely that the film will take a loss, it's going to be a tricky act balancing the aspects that filmgoers love about Star Wars with a fresh enough vision to validate its inclusion in Disney's new canon.

Rogue One takes place immediately prior to the original Star Wars film. Felicity Jones (Inferno) stars as Jyn Erso, the leader of a band of Rebel soldiers who are attempting to capture the plans for the Empire's first Death Star.

Rogue One screenwriter, Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli, The Walking Dead Telltale Series) recently shared an enthusiastic tweet showing off the film's Mexican poster. Unlike the final U.S. version, which prominently features the beachy planet of Scarif (filmed in South Maldives), the Mexican poster features the rebel base on Yavin IV (filmed in Guatemala). It's possible that this location was chosen to advertise to the Mexican community due to a greater sense of kinship with their geographic neighbor, but for Star Wars fans it's simply exciting to see the Rebel hideout back in the spotlight.

Of course, this isn't the only new look we got from Rogue One. Despite the gaggle of character posters that have recently hit, the supporting character of Mon Mothma was noticeably left out of the spotlight. For those unfamiliar with the character, Mon Mothma originally appeared in Return of the Jedi as a political leader of the Rebel Alliance. She's recently made prominent appearances in the Rogue One trailers, acted by Genevieve O’Reilly, a surprisingly good visual match to Caroline Blakiston's original portrayal.

In addition to these, Star Wars Aficionado has shared a number of official set photos, featuring behind-the-scenes looks at filming in Iceland, South Maldives, and Pinewood Studios in the U.K. The images feature the new alien Rebel hero Pao, as well as director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), and Warwick Davis (Return of the Jedi, Willow) as an all-new Star Wars alien.
