An epic new fan video highlights all the visual parallels found in the Star Wars franchise. Following the original six films, the Star Wars universe spent several years relegated to books, animated shows, and video games. It wasn't until Disney bought Lucasfilm that the franchise saw a resurgence on the big screen, starting with 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That film stirred up a great deal of excitement among fans, as it both introduced several new characters and brought back old favorites, like the original trio of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and Leia (Carrie Fisher). While The Force Awakens was generally well-received, some felt it hewed too closely to the original Star Wars, A New Hope.
That criticism disappeared with the follow-up, The Last Jedi, though one could argue that film supplied plenty of other criticisms for fans. The Last Jedi proved to be very polarizing among fans, as director Rian Johnson sought to take the well-known franchise into a completely different direction. The final film in Disney's sequel trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, appeared to be constructed as a direct response to fans' issues with The Last Jedi, but it too ended up being a divisive installment.
Still, regardless of the perceived quality of each Star Wars film, it's hard to deny that they all share some striking parallels. This fan video from redfoam highlights all of those visual parallels from all nine Skywalker saga movies, as well as Disney's spin-offs Rogue One and Solo and the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Star Wars will continue to expand on Disney+ with several more shows, both live-action and animated. When it comes to the former, there are shows currently in development focusing on characters like Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) from Rogue One and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Plus, there's a female-centric project in the works that will be set in a different era and created by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll). On the animated side, fans have The Bad Batch to look forward to next year.
The film future for Star Wars is a little less clear as the franchise takes a hiatus following The Rise of Skywalker. Taika Waititi's untitled film was recently pushed back from 2022 to 2023, signalling fans will be waiting even longer for the next big screen adventure in the galaxy far, far away. This film finally take the franchise away from the time frames fans are most familiar with, instead moving into brand new territory. Because of that, it'll be very interesting to see what parallels crop up in future Star Wars projects as they venture into the unknown.
