Lucasfilm is in development on a new Star Wars film by Damon Lindeloff and one of the directors of Ms. Marvel. October 30, will mark the ten-year anniversary of Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm and the announcement that audiences would be getting new Star Wars movies. Four of Disney's five Star Wars movies were massive box office hits, grossing over $1 billion worldwide, with the only exception being Solo: A Star Wars Story, which still took in a healthy amount regardless.
Ever since the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019, there have been no new Star Wars movies. Despite a lack of theatrical Star Wars releases, the franchise has continued to live on through various Disney+ streaming series, with Andor currently airing. While fans have been enjoying these new installments in the Star Wars universe, many are left wondering when the series will make its grand return to theaters and what story will be deemed big-screen worthy.
Traction on a new Star Wars film has gained momentum as, according to Deadline, Lost screenwriter Damon Lindelof has been developing a previously unreported Star Wars film at Lucasfilm and has brought on Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to helm the project. Sources for Deadline said that it was important for both Lucasfilm and Lindelof that a director be brought on board so the filmmaker's vision could be incorporated into the script. Lindelof is reportedly co-writing the project but no word has been made on who his co-writer is.

Marvel Studios Kevin Feige is set to produce a Star Wars film and has brought on Michael Waldron to pen the screenplay. Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is set to direct his own Star Wars trilogy, and the director revealed discussions are still happening regarding his trilogy.
There is a chance the Lindelof Star Wars project will move through development quickly, as the writer has a strong working relationship with two-time Disney Star Wars filmmaker J.J. Abrams. Lindelof has a strong track record working within genre franchises including his work on Star Trek, Lost, and most recently the acclaimed Watchmen miniseries for HBO. Obaid-Chinoy also joins Jon Favreau, Jon Watts, Peyton Reed, and Taika Waititi to make the leap from the MCU to the Star Wars universe. If the project moves along quickly, Lindelof and Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars film could be the film that takes the December 2025 release date that Disney has already reserved for an untitled Star Wars film.
