A new piece of unsettling fan art from renowned graphic artist BossLogic combines Star Wars’ Luke Skywalker with Batman’s villainous Joker. The characters are easily two of the most iconic in modern pop culture, and the result of their fusion dance is both fun and frightening to behold. Skywalker most recently appeared in The Mandalorian season 2 in a brief cameo that’s been widely celebrated by fans, while Joker is set to return in the Justice League Snyder Cut, portrayed by Jared Leto.

While Luke and Joker may not seem to have much in common at first glance (other than their shared fame), they do have one major thing in common. Both characters have been played by Mark Hamill, who’s portrayed Luke in every major Star Wars project since the original film and voiced arguably the most beloved version of Joker for decades of cartoons and animated films. As both the classic hero and the most notorious villain, Hamill has delivered stellar performances over the span of his impressive career.

The new crossover fan art piece from BossLogic fuses Hamill’s two most famous roles into an unsettling amalgam. The new character (Joke Skywalker? Luke Skyjoker?) has Hamill’s face and glorious ‘70s hair, but with the terrifying clown makeup and classic purple coat of the Joker. He wears a Batman-insignia utility belt, and holds an alteration of Luke’s lightsaber that turns the blade into a sort of laser crowbar. Overall, the new piece is fun and absurd, and certainly in line with BossLogic’s creative style.

Unfortunately for anyone hoping for this particular crossover to become a reality, it’s unlikely to happen. It would have been a long shot two years ago, but it’s even less probable now that Warner Brothers (who own DC) and Disney (who own Star Wars) are entrenching in an increasingly-heated battle for streaming dominance. Branded content has been the main weapon in that fight, and Luke Skywalker and the Joker are two of the biggest characters in two of each company’s biggest respective franchises.

A Star Wars/Marvel crossover? That might be a bit more plausible. Both series have appeared in similar non-canon contexts since being acquired by Disney, from LEGO shorts to full-length Phineas and Ferb specials. Batman’s no stranger to brand crossover either; Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a must-watch for fans of either franchise. While pop culture crossovers exist mostly in the minds of fans, it’s still fun to see two worlds like Star Wars and Batman brought together as in BossLogic’s excellent piece.
