This past weekend, Mark Hamill shared a cute story about holding hands with his Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford on the set of the first movie. The original Star Wars film released in 1977 and starred Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Ford as Han Solo, and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa. The movie became an instant success and ended up winning six Academy Awards.

Hamill, Ford, and Fisher starred in the original trilogy and returned to their roles for the sequel movies to add finality to their characters' arcs. While their stories have seemingly concluded, many additional movies and shows have been introduced to the Star Wars franchise. The universe currently lives on in the form of additional TV shows such as The Mandalorian and new installments like Star Wars: The High Republic being released this year.

Recently, Hamill, who frequently posts about Star Wars on social media, shared an interesting story about a behind-the-scenes photo taken while filming one of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope's final scenes. In the photo, Hamill is seen holding hands with Ford as they walk up a set of stairs. A camera is situated behind them, filming Fisher's reaction. In his post, Hamill revealed the reasoning behind the two actors holding hands, using the hashtag #TrueStory. In response to the photo, Joonas Suotamo – who played Chewbacca in the sequel trilogy – commented, "Knowing this, I appreciate you holding my hand even more now."

Hamill is known for his love of reminiscing about his time on set while making the franchise's original trilogy. This isn't the first time his friendship with Ford has made headlines. A couple years ago, Hamill also shared his first ever Star Wars screen test with Ford, offering a neat behind-the-scenes look at history in the making. While Ford doesn't have social media, he is often asked about his Star Wars experiences in interviews and is known for his lax comments such as stating that he didn't know what a force ghost was.

Considering the cultural impact of Star Wars, any insight into the creation of the series is a big treat. Hearing Hamill's take on the popular photo demystifies the content and is another reason to love Hamill and Ford's friendship. While it seems unlikely Ford will reveal his take on the photo unless someone brings it up in a sit-down interview, it's nice to know holding hands was his idea and is additional evidence of his commitment to the Star Wars movies.
