For most of Star Wars' existence, the Force-users have always been at the top of the food chain. That's why the films are mostly about the ever-raging war between the Jedi and the Sith. Since the latter are the bad guys, it's the Jedi that gets featured more often, even in video games.

Now, however, Disney+ has proven that there's more to Star Wars than acrobatic space monks wielding laser swords. The Mandalorian sheds some much-needed light on beings that can and have matched the Jedi in battle. The result is a piqued interest in such a previously underrated faction of Star Wars. It warrants branching out to other media forms, such a video games. Of course, that isn't to say the Jedi don't need more video games about them either.

Mandalorians: Better Gameplay Opportunities

When making video games about Jedi, the gameplay usually devolves to mashing the attack buttons to perform complicated lightsaber moves. Since the Jedi mostly confined themselves to using "civilized" weapons, they don't pick up blasters often.

The Mandalorians, with their rather impressive array of armaments, tend to have more varied actions in combat. They can engage their enemies no matter the distance since their tools are complete for any combat situation. That ought to give better gameplay variety in case they get their own game.

Jedi: Pop Culture Icons

As awesome as Mandalorians can be, they still pale in comparison to the general and marketing appeal of lightsabers and individuals wielding telekinetic powers. Needless to say, the Jedi are the most recognizable poster-people of Star Wars thanks mostly to the nine films that prominently feature them.

While it's cool that Disney is exploring other materials in the Star Wars mythos, the Jedi have always been a tried and tested formula that has a lower chance of failure, and like it or not, profit is always a huge consideration when making video games.

Still, the dizzying popularity of The Mandalorian right now might just provide more reasons for Disney or whichever publishing studio to greenlight a game about Mandalorians. It ought to be their turn after several decades of Jedi.

Moreover, a Mandalorian's typical adventure can prove to be just as exciting as a Jedi's, if not more so. Now that there's about to be two shows with Mandalorians at the helm, perhaps Disney might try to oversaturate television and streaming media and branch out to gaming too.

Jedi: They Haven't Had A Proper RPG

There are plenty of games about the Jedi and then those that also incorporate them as playable characters in multiplayer titles. However, the only RPG about them to this day is the Knights of the Old Republic games and the MMORPG, The Old Republic.

Those are heavily outdated and the combat barely represents what the Jedi are capable of if one has seen the films. That's why proper RPG with contemporary gameplay mechanics not unlike Jedi Fallen Order's and a deep roleplaying structure is due and something most fans can only dream about.

Mandalorians: Bounty Hunting Is Fun

As proven by many video games and even by Din Djarin's episodic escapades in The Mandalorian, bounty hunting is a fun profession. After all, that's what Mando mostly did before becoming a foster father. That's also what most Mandalorians in the current timeline of Star Wars do right now.

So it stands within reason that Mandalorians in their video games would also be bounty hunters. Finding creative ways to catch a target or kill them could easily become an enjoyable gameplay loop and many Star Wars fans would probably like that setup.

Jedi: Lightsabers Are Still The Best Weapons In Star Wars

Rey in Star Wars The Last Jedi

Sure, they might seem like simple light swords that can cut through most objects in Star Wars but the fact that they have multiple colors and personalized hilts lends much to their style. In Star Wars, a person's lightsaber is the best token they can ever have.

Compared to blasters or any other weapons which lack personality, lightsabers are far more amusing. A game about Jedi will surely showcase plenty of Star Wars lightsaber action compared to the usual laser tag that's happening between Mandalorians and most of their enemies.

Mandalorians: A Different Flavor Of Star Wars

Even so, some fans might argue that the Jedi or Sith are too played out and probably even too predictable. Such was the case for games like the first Knights of the Old Republic which mimicked a lot of the things that made the Star Wars movies successful. Even Jedi Fallen Order fell victim to this.

A video game about the Mandalorian, however, can feel a lot fresher and more original since it has no popular film template to follow. Moreover, it could be a chance for Star Wars to encapsulate other places in their universe such as the planets in the Outer Rim or deep and dark fringes of the galaxy far, far away.

Jedi: Better Story Opportunities

Regardless of how much the Mandalorians can offer in the narrative department, there's no denying just how rich the Jedi culture can be. As such, the stories to tell about them and the mysticism surrounding the Force make for more flexible source material.

The characters can also be more epic or more imaginative compared to the Mandalorians and their infighting or schemers. Even a simple formulaic enemy such as a Sith Lord can effortlessly provide tons of Star Wars exposition.

Mandalorians: The Mandalorian Plays Out Like A Video Game Already

If there is one constant noticeable thing or trend about The Mandalorian, it's that it already looks like a video game. The first season is quite guilty of this and it even plays out like an RPG where the hero or main character of the story works hard to get his armor.

The series also shows just how far Mando has progressed, collecting rewards along the way and improving his arsenal. As it is, it's very easy to make a video game out of it. Even the story structure itself ought to be quite familiar for many gamers. It's like the series was made to be one.

Jedi: They're More Interesting

Sadly, one reason the Mandalorians might never surpass the Jedi when it comes to being iconic is that they're simply not as cool or as capable. The Jedi at their best are omnipotent space wizards capable of changing the fate of the galaxy.

Their enemies are also a lot more interesting as well as their history and their ways. Seeing a Jedi in action alone should be enough to make a Star Wars fan out of a person. Even The Mandalorian might not have soared to the current heights it has right now without that one hungry and cute baby Jedi.
