Gina Carano is joining the cast of The Mandalorian for Disney+. Lucasfilm has brought Star Wars back in a big way in recent years, but are planning to use Disney's upcoming streaming service to further expand their reach. One of the first projects that will utilize the new media platform is Jon Favreau's original series The Mandalorian.

For months, The Mandalorian has been shrouded in secrecy. It wasn't until production appeared to be underway that Disney and Lucasfilm actually confirmed some major details. Taika Waititi, Dave Filoni, and more were announced to direct episodes of the series, and the reveal came with the first look at the titular character. Surprisingly, the studios have not confirmed who would be the star of the series. Earlier this week, a new report backed up prior rumblings that Pedro Pascal will be the lead of The Mandalorian and now he has his first co-star.

THR reported the news that Gina Carano is set to have a role in The Mandalorian too. There are currently no details on who Carano will be playing and such an announcement may have to wait until Lucasfilm themselves confirms this news. Now that she is the second cast member to be revealed, additional announcements could be on the way shortly.

Carano is a former MMA fighter and competitor who has made the transition in recent years to the big screen in action heavy roles. Her big break was in Steven Soderbergh's action-revenge film Haywire, which then elevated Carano to the high-octane Fast & Furious franchise for its sixth installment. She's done a few other smaller projects since then, while also taking a villainous turn for Deadpool as Angel Dust. Her move to The Mandalorian will only be her second appearance on the small screen as an actress, after making a guest appearance on Almost Human.

The starting point of Pascal and Carano is a solid beginning to The Mandalorian's cast. Another recent rumor claimed Carl Weathers of Rocky fame could be next in line to join the series. None of these casting decisions have been confirmed by Lucasfilm at this time, so they may be waiting for the entire cast to be set in stone before making an official announcement. But with filming underway, it can't be too much longer before the cast is finalized. Favreau now appears to have his lead gunslinger in Pascal and hopefully an action-heavy role in mind for Carano.
