Each movie in the Star Wars prequel trilogy gets at least one reference in The Mandalorian episode 5. Since the series began, The Mandalorian has been loaded with the franchise's lore and connections to various Star Wars movies and cartoons, but the latest episode has particularly strong ties to the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and a lot of that has to do with its setting, Tatooine.

The desert planet of Tatooine, which first appeared in A New Hope, was where some of the action in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace took place. It was the home of Anakin Skywalker, and where his journey first began. The planet gets a visit from Mando (Pedro Pascal) in The Mandalorian, shortly after his short-lived stay on Sorgan. During the episode, the titular bounty hunter goes hunting for a dangerous criminal, played by Ming-Na Wen, while waiting for his ship to undergo repairs.

Mando's one-episode adventure on an iconic Star Wars planet is littered with Easter eggs, including a fun reference to a Han Solo moment in A New Hope. While the episode relies heavily on aspects of the Star Wars mythos introduced in the original films - such as the Tusken Raiders and the Mos Eisley cantina - the episode also borrows a great deal from the prequels, such as the inclusion of pit droids, swoop bikes, and more.

Podracer Droids From The Phantom Menace

Fans may recognize the small repair droids that approach Mando's ship in the beginning of the episode from The Phantom Menace. Known as DUM-series pit droids, they were used for the purpose of podracing.

Speeder Bikes From Attack of The Clones

Anakin Attack of the Clone Speeder Bike

Mando and Toro Calican (Jake Cannavale) use a pair of speeder bikes to chase Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand across the desert. Speeder bikes were used in multiple Star Wars movies, but this model came from Attack of the Clones.

Anakin loses to Obi Wan

While Mando and Toro are in the desert trying to figure out how to get to Fennec Shand, Mando explains that "she's got the high ground", which is what Obi-Wan Kenobi famously said to Anakin Skywalker right before Anakin's defeat.

Mos Espa From The Phantom Menace

When Toro Calican is waiting for the Mandalorian to return, Fennec Shand tries to convince him to turn on Mando. She claims that she still has time to make her rendezvous in Mos Espa, a port city on Tatooine. In The Phantom Menace, Mos Espa is the place where Anakin and his mother lived.
