Ever since his first appearance in The Mandalorian, the hit series on Disney+ that has electrified Star Wars fans across the globe, The Child (aka Baby Yoda) has become a beloved addition to that galaxy far, far away. While fans may enjoy the exploits of the show's titular bounty hunter, they have also been put under the spell of the diminutive creature's inquisitive charm. He began as just another mark but quickly turned into the star of the series after the Mandalorian vowed to protect him.
As the series has progressed, viewers have watched The Child grow and change, exhibiting incredible powers as the Mandalorian kept him out of the Empire's clutches. Their adventures have sparked the imagination of fans across several genres, and Baby Yoda has enjoyed an enormous amount of popularity even beyond the Star Wars fandom, resulting in these hilarious memes.
THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS
Keanu Reeves, dubbed the internet's boyfriend, has caused quite a sensation in recent years. Known for his humanitarian work and his overall down to Earth personality, he's gone from being derided as a one-dimensional actor in action films to being celebrated as an anti-Hollywood star who's humble and kind.
A private person, Reeves has only recently started sharing details about his personal life, such as aspects of his family and who he's dating. For those fans of the John Wick star who wish he'd have a bunch of little Keanus, they'll have to settle for this meme, where he appears to have elevated himself to the internet's dad.
DISNEY PRINCESS
When Disney made big acquisitions like Lucasfilm, Marvel, and now Fox, suddenly characters from a wide variety of fandoms were being elevated to the lofty position of "Disney Prince" or "Princess." The appeal of this transition lay in the fact that none of these characters possessed the tropes of a typical "Disney character."
Some Star Wars characters like Princess Leia were already royalty, but there was further emphasis put on her son Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, who became the "Dark Prince of Star Wars" specifically because he was given the "Disney" treatment of tussled locks and princely attire. Baby Yoda may be small and possess no sweeping cape, but we feel he'd make a great Disney prince.
BABY POTTER
Baby Yoda and Harry Potter have a lot in common, so it's not surprising to find them paired together in a meme. They're both orphans, they both have magical powers, and they're both at the center of mysterious circumstances they must grow to understand. If the Jedi Temple were still around, Baby Yoda would go to the Star Wars equivalent of Wizard School.
Baby Yoda with human skin is really just Dobby from the Harry Potter franchise, though we suspect he wouldn't belong to the same House. Though he doesn't have the ability to speak yet, Baby Yoda has a big personality, and it seems like his fun-loving, curious, and protective traits would be best suited as a Hufflepuff.
BABY YODA AND BABA YAGA
In many ways, John Wick, the elite assassin from his own self-titled franchise, and Mando have a surprising amount in common. Wick and Mando are both reserved and methodical hitmen who are the best in the business of contract killing, but are capable of showing surprising tenderness and affection to those they care about.
For Mando, his taciturn iciness is melted when he becomes the protector of Baby Yoda, and John Wick shows a few cracks in his proverbial armor when he shows affection for his dog. The ultimate crossover would involve John Wick being Baby Yoda's protector, taking on the High Table, the remnants of the Empire, and any bounty hunter scum who wanted some.
BABY GROOT VERSUS BABY YODA
When viewers first met Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, he seemed like a lumbering monosyllabic oaf, who used his immense strength to help his friends stay alive against Ronan and his armada. When he selflessly sacrificed his life to save them, it wasn't in vain because he was able to be "reborn" from a sapling, and thus "Baby Groot" was born.
Baby Groot dominated the cute niche of the MCU fandom for some time, but not to be outdone by this disturbance in the Force, Disney created an entity even more adorable in the Star Wars fandom. Hopefully, it means that we'll get dancing Baby Yodas to go with our dancing Baby Groots.
BABY YODA VERSUS GIZMO
At the first appearance of The Child, aka Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian, fans immediately pointed out his similar physical characteristics to another big-eared small alien creature - Gizmo from the '80s classic Gremlins. Baby Yoda looked like what would happen if Gizmo suddenly went bald.
Not only do they look similar, but they both are incredibly curious little creatures who love to stuff their faces with anything that's even remotely edible. Gizmo caused a lot of problems for his owner Billy, but the teen wasn't as observant of the mogwai as Mando is of Baby Yoda. Under Mando's vigilant watch, Baby Yoda can still eat after midnight.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH FOOD?
In recent years there's been an incredible backlash against Disney for the physical appearance of its Disney Princesses. Characters from classic animated films like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid have been called out for causing harm to young girls' self-esteem by depicting unrealistic body standards.
There has been an overwhelming majority of Disney Princesses presented as not only thin, but having proportions impossible to obtain for anyone other than an animated character. Luckily, characters like Moana have started to change that, by showcasing and celebrating a diverse representation of body types.
BABY YODA VERSUS THANOS
Never underestimate the power of cute. As intimidating as Thanos is, either with his hulking frame or his use of the Infinity Gauntlet, he has to amass his legions out of fear, whereas Baby Yoda can amass legions of fans out of love. He may be small, but he has very large friends that would gladly sacrifice themselves to keep him safe.
But even the Mad Titan was once a baby, and in comics like Cosmic Ghost Rider: Baby Thanos Must Die, he's revealed to be pretty adorable - like a grape with legs. The Marvel heroes must decide if they can travel back in time and kill Baby Thanos before he grows up to wipe out half of Earth, but they'll have to not underestimate the power of cute to do it.
STEP AWAY FROM THE FROG
It's not difficult to imagine Kermit the Frog and Baby Yoda relaxing over a nice meal of soup and tea - just two green guys, bonding over the fact that "it's not easy being green." However, things would take a dark turn when Kermit suddenly realized that Baby Yoda's favorite snack is some sort of frog.
If Baby Yoda accidentally ate Robin, Kermit's nephew, Muppet fans might see a totally new side to Kermit. It's not difficult to imagine that underneath his happy-go-lucky demeanor lies a neurotic killer. Imagine if automatic weapons were put into those flailing arms of his? Luckily Baby Yoda has Mando to protect him.
BATTLE OF THE BABIES
With Baby Yoda fever sweeping the nation, it seems like all other incredibly cute fictional beings have been forgotten. Not that long ago, Detective Pikachu was one of the most adorable things on the internet. Before that, even Baby Grinch was viewed as cute by some fans.
In the end, the fandoms can all agree that miniature anything is bound to melt their hearts, which is ultimately the reason characters are turned into mini versions of themselves. Yoda himself was even considered cute at one time before Star Wars fans realized he could be made even more so.
