One incredibly dedicated Star Wars fan has built a life-size version of Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) X-Wing. Debuting in 1977, the George Lucas-created franchise has become a pop culture mainstay over the last 40-plus years. Thanks to its unique characters and rich lore, Star Wars has continued to expand its base of loyal followers across generations — with many often dedicating time, effort, and resources to reliving their favorite moments in the movie.

At the end of the original Star Wars film, Luke officially joined the Rebel Alliance on the heels of Obi-Wan Kenobi's (Sir Alec Guinness) death. With the plans of the Death Star secured, the freedom fighters knew the space weapon should be destroyed, and it all boiled down to the young Skywalker. As part of the Red Squadron, he was assigned his own X-Wing, which Luke continued to use throughout the original trilogy in Episode V and Episode VI, until he went into a self-imposed exile in Ahch-To. It was later flown by Rey (Daisy Ridley) in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker when Luke pulled it out from the bottom of the ocean.

Now, cosplayer JUST AYAAL has decided to build his own life-size version of the X-Wing. The Star Wars fan documented much of the process on his Instagram account, starting the build inside his workshop with separated parts, and then assembling the final impressive product outside. Overall, he says that it took him and his team three months to finish the project — without assembling. In the end, their effort proved to be extremely worthwhile, as the team created a incredibly detailed, life-sized X-Wing starfighter. Check out some clips of the process below:

Star Wars has long been a popular inspiration for cosplayers, since it has so many fascinating signature elements and characters. From the looks of it, JUST AYAAL started with a simple cosplay of Luke in his Red Five garb, but he and his group decided to ramp it up by building a complete X-Wing to match. Aside from the amount of time and effort dedicated to creating this project, chances are that it was also quite pricey, judging by the sheer size and scale of the starfighter. The team also haven't skipped over the smaller details, as the aircraft includes a droid slot for R2-D2.

It's uncertain if they have plans for this life-size X-Wing aside from sharing its building process on Instagram and getting some impressive footage. For now, the creator is at least trying to get the attention of Hamill himself, to see what the star thinks of the job they've done. It's uncertain if the actor has already spotted it, but considering how active he is on social media, especially with regard to engaging with Star Wars fans, it's safe to assume that he'll find this amazing fan build eventually, and give it the praise it deserves.
