Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars #2

In Star Wars: The Force AwakensMaz Kanata offers Luke Skywalker's blue lightsaber to Finn and Han Solo. Han Solo asks where she got it, as it was thought to be lost during the events of Empire Strikes Back. Kanata responds that it's a good question, for another time. However, that other time wasn't addressed. Until Now. The second issue of Marvel's Star Warsset right after the events of Empire Strikes Back, reveals the fate of Luke's lightsaber after he lost it after Darth Vader cut his hand off.

Luke's lightsaber, which once belonged to his father Anakin Skywalker, was given to him by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: A New Hope. In Empire Strikes Back, Luke uses said lightsaber in a duel with Darth Vader on Cloud City. Just before revealing to Luke that he is his father, Vader cuts off Luke's hand, causing him to lose his lightsaber in the process, falling into the chasm below. Skip ahead about 30 years later and it is inexplicably in the hands of Maz Kanata in her castle on Takodana. When Rey refuses to take it, Maz gives it to Finn, who later duels Kylo Ren. When Kylo Ren defeats Finn, Rey takes the lightsaber, and it stays in her possession throughout the rest of the sequel trilogy until she buries it outside the Lars homestead on Tatooine along with Leia's lightsaber. However, fans still want to know about the empty space in the Skywalker saber's history between Empire and The Force Awakens. Who recovered the lightsaber and how did it end up in the hands of Maz Kanata. Star Wars #2 begins to provide those answers.

At the end of Star Wars #2Lando Calrissian approaches Luke. He offers to help Luke find the lightsaber if he'll come with him back to Cloud City. While his intentions aren't nearly as altruistic as they appear, Lando claims to know where the lightsaber is. This prompts Luke with a vision, seeing his hand and lightsaber falling through the chasm on Cloud City. However, the lightsaber is caught. A voice calls out to Luke, and a hooded figure tells Luke to follow his destiny while clutching the lightsaber.

Who is this hooded figure? How did they know about Luke, Vader, and the falling saber? Are they a force user? Do they use the light or dark side of the force? The being's words are colored blue on the page. Does this mean it's Obi-Wan's force ghost? Wouldn't that mean that Obi-Wan's interfering with events, which he told Luke he couldn't do if Luke went to confront Vader? The figure looks like they could be wearing Jedi robes. Is it Ezra Bridger or Ahsoka Tano? Who knows? One thing is for sure: more questions and mysteries are now present on the search for answers to this untold chapter of this lightsaber's history. As the series continues, Star Wars fans will hopefully get the answers and the story they've been waiting for.

Star Wars #2 is on comic book store shelves now.
