With Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker set for release later this month, the movie will no doubt have some epic lightsaber battles as the latest trilogy draws to a close. Battles between Jedi and Sith Lords have been a common feature of the franchise, creating some amazing moments in the past.

The lightsaber duels are often some of the most exciting parts of the movies, with amazing choreography and a true battle between good and evil taking place. However, over time, there have been a few lightsaber duels that haven't quite hit the mark, and within this list, we will break down the 10 worst lightsaber battles in the history of Star Wars

Mace Windu Vs Darth Sidious (Revenge Of The Sith)

Mace Windu not yet

Unfortunately, we don't get too many lightsaber duels from Mace Windu throughout the prequels, despite him being built as one of the most powerful Jedi's in the galaxy. One time we do see him duel is against Darth Sidious in an exchange which leads to Windu's death.

While this battle starts out fairly strong, things do wind down and get worse as it goes on. Windu spends far too long delaying the inevitable, with Anakin eventually coming in to help the Sith Lord, meaning we never really get a true ending to this particular battle.

Finn Vs Stormtrooper (The Force Awakens)

It is hard to technically call this a lightsaber battle, as there is actually only one lightsaber involved. However, both Finn and the Stormtrooper TR-8R engage in what seems like a lightsaber duel as the trooper uses a weapon that resembles a lightsaber.

However, the fact that he doesn't use a true lightsaber instantly makes this a lower rating. That isn't helped by the fact that the Stormtrooper actually dominates this fight, which doesn't really make Finn look great. Even though it's his first time using the weapon, in the past we have seen lightsabers dominate every duel, and this one doesn't make the weapon seem as strong as it actually is.

Luke Skywalker Vs Kylo Ren (The Last Jedi)

Next on the list is the lightsaber duel between Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren, bringing the past against the future in The Last Jedi. However, this isn't really a typical battle scene as we learn that Luke isn't even on the planet, and is actually just projecting his likeness.

In the end, his decision to use the Force in this way costs him his life. This moment is all about Luke having a final sacrifice, allowing the Resistance to escape and continue the battle, but it didn't give fans the epic duel they wanted to see from them.

Anakin Skywalker Vs Younglings (Revenge Of The Sith)

This one is less of a battle and more of a massacre. It serves its purpose in that it is a true turning of Anakin Skywalker to the dark side as he heads into the temple to find all of the younglings hiding in sheer terror over what has taken place.

While we don't see exactly what he does until Obi-Wan looks at security footage later in the film, we eventually learn that he destroys them all. While it is obvious that would happen as he is far stronger, it doesn't create a great battle as it is too one-sided.

Anakin Skywalker & Obi-Wan Kenobi Vs Count Dooku (Revenge Of The Sith)

From the same movie as the previous entry, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi teamed up to take on Count Dooku right at the start of the film. This marked the second time the three men had duelled, and while it was a slight improvement on the first bout, there was still some serious problems.

The issue with this duel, much like their first is that Obi-Wan is too easily overpowered. He is supposed to be one of the greatest Jedi's that ever lived, yet Count Dooku brushes him aside without an issue, all while still dealing with an equally powerful Anakin.

Rey Vs Kylo Ren (The Force Awakens)

Rey and Kylo Ren have been involved in some fantastic lightsaber duels throughout their time in the Star Wars world, but this one wasn't one of them. This is the first big fight that they have, and it isn't the greatest despite the fantastic acting and the brilliant score to back it up.

However, at this point, Rey has never used a lightsaber before, yet somehow she almost manages to defeat Kylo who has had plenty of training. While what they do is fine, it is fairly basic in comparison to other fights in the more modern movies and it just lacks in the common sense department.

Battle Of Geonosis (Attack Of The Clones)

Attack of the Clones

Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones is often considered to be the weakest film in the franchise, and this battle sequence does really shine a light onto why. While there isn't any true lightsaber vs lightsaber duels here, there are tons of Jedi all out using the weapon to battle.

The CGI from this particular scene really hasn't held up well, which makes the whole thing look a little weak. While the filming just skips over everything in what is one big rush, not quite allowing fans to grasp how important or how big this battle really is.

Qui-Gon Jinn Vs Darth Maul (Phantom Menace)

Even though these two characters would go on to have one of the best duels in Star Wars history at the end of the movie, this particular interaction was one of the weakest. Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul only have a very brief encounter, and perhaps it is because fans wanted to see more that makes it so disappointing.

The battle is a brief one and is dominated by Maul, with Qui-Gon being forced to retreat into the ship to survive, giving a hint as to what will come later. It is clear that Qui-Gon isn't able to keep up with the Sith, but sadly it is too brief for people to really learn that fact.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Vs Darth Vader (A New Hope)

Technically, this was the first-ever lightsaber battle, and therefore at the time it certainly did wow the audience back in 1977, but it really does not hold up anymore. If you take a look at this nowadays, the entire sequence is just incredibly slow and awkward.

Granted, at this point Obi-Wan is an older man, but when you see Count Dooku flipping around at a similar age, it is hard to take this particular duel seriously. They awkwardly hold their weapons like they don't even know how to use them, this has sadly become one of the worst lightsaber duels of all time.

Obi-Wan Kenobi & Anakin Skywalker Vs Count Dooku (Attack Of The Clones)

When it comes to the worst lightsaber duel in Star Wars history, that takes place during Attack Of The Clones, when Count Dooku finally got involved in a fighting aspect. He battled Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi at the same time, and somehow dominated both of them.

While Dooku was clearly very powerful, this duel was so one-sided that it made no sense at all. When Darth Maul battled two Jedi's, it was an incredibly close-fought duel. Yet later on, when Obi-Wan was even stronger, he was completely destroyed alongside Anakin, who had his hand chopped off here, which just made them appear pathetic.
