Prepare to relive the glory of the Battle of Yavin in LEGO form as the famous toy company releases a revamped version of the Star Wars Y-wing starfighter.

Since their introduction back in A New Hope, the Y-wings have become a major part of Star Wars lore. While not quite as memorable as their smaller X-wing counterparts, the Y-wings have popped up in nearly every expanded universe story and movie ever since. So, it isn't it about time they get their time to shine?

According to StarWars.com, LEGO is celebrating in style this Star Wars Day by bringing its classic Y-wing set back to shelves. Fans may remember that LEGO first sold Y-wings back in 2004, but considering the line went out of production in 2006, it is about time Gold Squadron got to fly back into the hearts of collectors. LEGO is known for its Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series set, and now, the Y-wing will join the likes of 2002's creepy Yoda statue and last year's expansive Millennium Falcon set.

Pulled straight from the climactic run on the Empire's Death Star, the Y-wing harks back to the magic of 1977's first movie. As for the LEGO set, Gold Leader can be found in the cockpit and R2-BHD is helping out in the back. Although there is a gun turret, there is sadly no gunner inside, which may leave some collectors disappointed. That being said, with the turret being wheel-activated and the Y-wing also including retractable landing skids, there is some serious attention to detail.

Star Wars and LEGO go hand-in-hand, while most fans of that galaxy far, far away will undoubtedly have some sort of merchandise somewhere in their house. The Y-wing isn't quite as extensive as the massive Death Star or Falcon (the third largest LEGO set ever), but builders will still have to put in some hard work thanks to the box's 1,967 pieces. Standing at 2″ high, 24″ long, and 11″ wide, the Y-wing could take pride of place on anyone's mantelpiece.

It doesn't end there though. If you place your newly-built Y-wing on the stand that comes with it, it will stand tall and a towering 9". Coming with the display stand reminds everyone that this may be one for collectors, but as with all LEGO, no one is saying you can't play with it. Given the recent success of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, some might be surprised that LEGO didn't opt for something a little more modern to bring into the exclusive Collector Series set. However, there's no denying that the Y-wing isn't an impressive model that will evoke any Star Wars fan's memory of shouting "Red Leader, this is Gold Leader."
