LEGO Star Wars: May 4th Force Awakens Promo & Freemaker Adventures Trailer

Star Wars isn't just a film series, it's a merchandising juggernaut. There's a plethora of licensed products available all throughout the year, including an assortment of materials from LEGO. Since 1999, the famous toy company has been involved with the franchise, offering fans a variety of play sets, video games, and even animated shorts. Given the popularity of both, the partnership has been extremely fruitful over the years, which is why their current agreement runs through 2022 (and will most likely be extended at some point).

In recent years, the galaxy far, far away has expanded its reach to the small screen, with the television series The Clone Wars and Rebels fleshing out the canon in exciting ways. Seeing how successful this programming has been, LEGO is now interested in growing their brand even further and are teaming up with Star Wars for a new show that will air on Disney XD called Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. A couple of months back, they released an announcement trailer, which you can watch above.

The series takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, focusing on a family of scavengers (and their trusty battle droid companion) who are trying to keep their salvaging business alive amidst the Galactic Civil War. Their fortunes change when they learn that the Emperor is trying to track down powerful kyber crystals that were used to construct a lightsaber long ago. The Freemakers are then forced into a race against the Imperials to recover the items and keep the universe safe.

Unlike the previous Star Wars TV shows, Freemaker Adventures is reportedly not considered canon by Lucasfilm. It is merely a fun comedy series put together by LEGO that isn't related to the bevy of materials that are available. While that may be disappointing for some, it doesn't mean that the series won't be worth checking out. Based on the preview clips, Freemaker Adventures seems to have captured the classic LEGO brand of humor that personifies their video output (including 2014's The LEGO Movie), and it will introduce a collection of new characters for viewers to love. In an effort to promote the series' June premiere, the Star Wars YouTube channel shared a look at the main cast. Check it out below:

Freemaker Adventures isn't the only way LEGO is celebrating Star Wars in 2016. As fans of the property know, May the 4th (Star Wars Day) is right around the corner. To commemorate the occasion, LEGO has put together a variety of promotions providing customers free goodies and merchandise. In a press release, the company provided a full list of what they're offering:

It's noted that the offer runs from April 30 - May 4, or while supplies last. There's a limit of one free item per consumer.

As has been said plenty of times before, this is a great time to be a Star Wars fan. With Disney acquiring Lucasfilm, the franchise arguably has an even greater presence in the zeitgeist than it ever did, having a prevalent presence in all forms of media. LEGO is just one of the many aspects in which it dominates, and there's every reason to believe that Star Wars and LEGO will continue to find success together through their various endeavors.
