Star Wars: The Last Jedi has dethroned Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman as the second highest earner on the 2017 domestic box office list. The latest entry in the Skywalker saga continues the story of Jakku scavenger Rey and dark side user Kylo Ren as the Resistance and the First Order continue their fight for the fate of the galaxy far, far away. The film is also centered around Mark Hamill's highly anticipated return as Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fisher's final performance as General Leia Organa.

While the film has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, the fans are mixed with many calling it either the worst or the best film in the saga with a 52 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the disparity, the film is still bringing in the cash for Disney, topping the box office competition and earning over $500 million globally during its first week. The film is expected to break $800 million after less than two weeks in theaters and is predicted to hit a staggering $1 billion total in the box office this week.
