Carrie Fisher's dog, Gary, was among the millions of beings to watch the second trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi when it debuted Monday night. It's been a bittersweet year for Star Wars fans, following the tragic passing of the screen icon Fisher at age 60 on December 27, 2016. That event was compounded by loss of her mother, film legend mother, Debbie Reynolds, the next day at age 84.
Tributes, naturally, poured in following the loss of the actor who made Princess-turned-General Leia a household name, including a moving salute to her work on the Star Wars saga during Star Wars Celebration in Orlando this past April. And with her upcoming appearance as General Leia in The Last Jedi being her last, fans have been waiting patiently for their first full-fledged look at the venerable character in the new Star Wars trailer after a brief shot in the teaser. They finally got that Monday night, when Disney and Lucasfilm released the footage for the masses.
As it turns out, it wasn't just humans that were watching the new trailer for The Last Jedi. In an Instagram post from his official account (yes, canines are allowed to participate in social media, too), Fisher's lovable French Bulldog, Gary, was pictured watching the trailer, too. A photo was snapped of Gary the dog from behind as he watched Fisher's appearance in the trailer. The post was accompanied by the sweet words, "Just watched the new trailer of The Last Jedi and my mom looks more beautiful than ever," accompanied by several hashtags, including #garymisseshismom and #garyloveshismom. See the post below:
Also included in Gary the dog's post was the hashtag #garyloveshisfans. As it turns out, the lovable pooch has more than 3,100 followers on his Instagram account. Appropriately, his profile states, "The official IG of Gary Fisher. You may know my brilliant mom, Princess Leia?"
It's wonderful that an Instagram account belonging to Fisher's dog has been active since the actor's untimely passing, because it typifies the sort of quirky humor that she was know for when she was alive. It's a way, essentially, of keeping Fisher's spirit alive through the loyal pet who accompanied her nearly everywhere, including every talk show appearance and interview she did when was promoting The Force Awakens. Gary was such a big part of his mom's life, in fact, that he even appeared with Fisher in the British TV series Catastrophe. There's no other of way of putting it other than to say that Gary the dog was a major Force in Fisher's life, and fans love him for it.
