Topps will reveal new trading card images from Star Wars: The Last Jedi daily leading up to the release of the film. The eighth episode of the Skywalker family saga is less than a month away, and not surprisingly, the film is attracting more attention than ever with reveals coming out through new images, interviews and TV spots. Fans are no doubt excited about the film, which is tracking to make north of $200 million at the domestic box office in its opening frame next month, which will it on par with numbers earned in the blockbuster debut of The Force Awakens in 2015.

Of course, a big part of the Star Wars film series since it debuted 40 years ago on May 25, 1977, has been its merchandising, from apparel and costumes, to toys, including the 3 3/4-inch action figures, which forever changed the ways movies were marketed. Also on the ground floor of the merchandising for the original Star Wars film was product from the legendary trading card company Topps, which apart from its standard Major League Baseball and National Football League issues, came out with cards featuring images for the film.

Keeping up with the tradition the card-maker began four decades ago, Topps is continuing its Star Wars line with an exclusive set of 20 cards featuring images from The Last Jedi. So, instead of packing up the cards and releasing them en masse on the outset, Topps instead has chosen to make an event out of its new Last Jedi trading line by revealing a new card every day featuring a never-before-seen image from the film. The catch is, each card from the 20-card exclusive set will be available for 24 hours until the next card is revealed.

It's here! The Topps Star Wars Countdown to Episode 8 has started with never-before-seen photos from The Last Jedi. 1 new card every day! https://t.co/ipau7hzEiC pic.twitter.com/MnXnIc9uHU— Topps Company (@Topps) November 21, 2017

Each of The Last Jedi trading cards promise to have the classic look of the original Star Wars cards from 1977. The first card, which features a close-up profile shot of Rey (Daisy Ridley) was released Tuesday with the caption, "Rey Encounters Luke Skywalker"; and only a few hours are left for fans to purchase it before the next card is revealed. The price tag is $9.99 per card, so presumably the cards will hold their value and likely increase since they are being produced in far fewer quantities than the "Journey to the Last Jedi" set that's already been made available for sale to the public.

With 19 more exclusive cards to come as of this writing, it will be interesting to see if any of the new cards for The Last Jedi will reveal any new plot points that haven't been released yet. No matter the case, the daily release of the card set marks one more fun way to head into the final countdown for the film before it finally arrives in theaters December 15.
