Rey and Kylo Ren prepare for battle for their respective sides in a pair of new posters for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. One of the central storylines of Rian Johnson's sequel and the entire new trilogy is the dynamic between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo (Adam Driver), two powerful Force users who are inextricably linked in mysterious ways. The Last Jedi is expected to explore more of the characters' pasts and eventually bring the two together in some capacity - whether they end up clashing or joining forces.
The biggest development of the Rey/Kylo relationship came in the final trailer for The Last Jedi, in which Kylo appears to extend his hand toward Rey when she says she needs someone to help her find her place in the conflict between the First Order and the Resistance. Even if it was just some trailer trickery, it's clear that their paths will eventually cross and their stories will intertwine in ways that could change the saga significantly.
Rey and Kylo take center stage once again in the two newest promotional posters for The Last Jedi, which were revealed via Twitter on Saturday by Matt Ferguson, artist and co-owner of U.K.-based print house Vice Press. Ferguson officially did the posters for RealD and Odeon Cinemas in the U.K., and says they will be available at select U.K. screenings next week. The posters feature Rey and Kylo, respectively, each with lightsabers drawn and a muted color palette. There's a hint of blue for Rey and red for Kylo. Check out the posters below:
Another interesting aspect of the posters is the symbols featured prominently. Rey sports a Rebel Alliance/Resistance logo, while Kylo features the emblem of the First Order. One of the more persistent fan theories about Rey is that she would ultimately switch sides and join Kylo in the First Order, but she said in an interview with Screen Rant that she hasn't read any theories that are correct. It's clear which side they stand on at the start of the film, but where they go from there is anyone's guess at this point.
It may be tough for Star Wars fans outside of the U.K. to get their hands on a copy of one of these posters, but there's no doubt that they're impressively designed and fun to look at. They subtly and creatively illustrate the themes of The Last Jedi, making good use of the contrast between light and dark. Posters like these can only help the film build intrigue for what Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) truly means when he says "Darkness rises, and light to meet it."
Another poster sneakily reveals that Rey will spar with Luke Skywalker on the planet Ahch-To, while an international TV spot reveals the spoiler-y moment of Rey using Kylo Ren's red lightsaber against Snoke's Praetorian Guards. It's already known that Rey will interact with Snoke at some point, but it's unclear how she ultimately fits into his plans in The Last Jedi - and how Kylo will factor into it all.
