After the Last Jedi: Kylo Interviews A New Stormtrooper

In a brand new Screen Rant YouTube series, we explore what might be going around the First Order base after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Last year's Episode VIII added another page in the long-running Skywalker saga with a story that has cracked the lore open - introducing several new concepts that could be at play for future films to come. Continuing the brand new narrative that 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens began, the movie also sees the official return of Luke Skywalker at the forefront of the good vs. bad battle.

Arguably, however, The Last Jedi has furthered Kylo Ren's personal arc more than anybody else's in the sequel trilogy. Episode VIII squashes hopes of some fans' that he will change his mind, come back to the light side and rejoin the Resistance. At some points in the film, we were even led to believe that. But in the end, he's pretty set in his ways. With Star Wars: Episode IX presumably including a time-jump where both the First Order and the Resistance rebuild their respective organizations, we visualize what the latter's process will be.

Supreme Leader Snoke is gone, hence automatically making Kylo Ren the First Order's leader. This new YouTube series imagines what it'd practically look like following the aftermath of The Last Jedi. Screen Rant's take on the situation features Kylo Ren sitting down with Stormtrooper applicant when he gets a bit too honest about the happenings in the First Order after a prospect starts asking questions about the gig. Referencing events from the Rian Johnson-directed film such as him slicing his late master into half and revealing his Force interactions with Rey, the four-minute video is full of callbacks from Episode VIII that would definitely make any Star Wars fan chuckle, if not laugh out loud. Unfortunately, due to Ben's candidness, the applicant backs out from the job order and finds himself tossed out in space - stumbling upon floating General Organa. Watch it above.

While the clip takes a more humorous route in tackling this issue, Star Wars fans will undoubtedly like to know the inner workings of the First Order, perhaps more than the Resistance. The films have shined enough light on the good guys that we somehow know what goes into their meetings and how the organization's hierarchy works. But rarely do we see the Empire and its contemporary presented in a way that we understand what goes in day-to-day operations as the focus is almost always on the higher-ups like Snoke, Kylo Ren, and General  Hux. Video game Star Wars: Battlefront II attempted with Iden Versio, but she eventually switched sides.

At this point, it's unsure if we'll get an Empire/First Order-centric feature film considering how tricky it would be to present an uncomplicated bad guy's perspective and make it compelling for viewers. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had hints of that when it tackled the politics within the organization with Grand Moff Tarkin and Orson Krennic, but that's just a small percentage of the movie's overall narrative. Meanwhile, as we wait for that to happen (if it does), this new video is a great way to satisfy cravings for more First Order-centric stories as it offers fans a lighter look at what could possibly be going on in those huge Star Destroyers.
